AI is a tool that can be used poorly or well. Like most things it depends on how hard you work at it. A photographer uses a camera to record scenes they think are beautiful or meaningful. I use words, parameter setting, version choices, and more to generate imagines that are unique and appealing. The bland is not created by artists but artists do use AI.

I have started using the video place on my listings to show the time lapse drawing/painting process so that they know I drew it!

I wish Etsy would train buyers to purchase from us to get the best, most creative gifts and items on Earth. Forget discounts, refunds for shipping, etc.

If existing buyers have to get verified that is a lot of income for Etsy at $15 a pop. If it is optional they could stick a Verified badge on your shop which will then might become a search filter option either openly or via the might algorithm.

Here’s my funny experience with Etsy removing listings… I had a handmade rocket ship kid’s toy taken down as soon as I listed it. I assume Etsy AI thought it was a sex toy (definitely not) but I never received a reason or human response even though I appealed. Eventually gave up, wasn’t worth the effort. A similar item which wasn’t labeled as a toy is still up.

2 hours response rate, rotfl. It took 1 month to responed to my request of removed listing and now then I provided all info that they are wrong, it is coming week 2 to the end, so it is already 6 weeks and not resolved yet.

The stats on where the shops are with infringing listings won’t reflect accurately where the products are actually coming from. A lot of Chinese sellers use a combination of dropshipping partners and locally based warehouses to be able to ‘base’ themselves in the countries they sell to. Their hub and manufacturing might be in China but they’ll have local sellers. I’ve come across this as a buyer myself, where I know the seller I’m talking to is in China, but they are still able to get the product to me via Royal Mail in a couple of days… this is particularly common on eBay and Amazon and i would be surprised if they’re not using the same model on Etsy as it would have also allowed them to get around Etsy payments for the past few years by having seller partners in various countries

it will be business as usual, with thousands of shops welling mass produced copyright infringed items and the sellers who really make their own products will be the ones to suffer

OH I would LOVE for Etsy to require AI generated images to be identified as such! I use digital kits in my junk journals and have made a few for my shop. It is disgusting to see Etsy flooded with all these AI generated ladies, cats, dogs, children.....they look plastic and fake. Yet sales soar. Even some very well-known digital art shops are using it, and it is sad. For those of us that value authentic, vintage art, AI is a nightmare and hard to look at, let alone create with!!
