Heitor Villa-Lobos was born on March 5, 1887 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A composer, conductor, cellist, and guitarist, he is considered by many as "the single most significant creative figure in 20th-century Brazilian art music.” Villa-Lobos died on November 17, 1959.
Jack (age 16) studies with Christopher Mallett at the California Conservatory of Music and plays a guitar by American Luthier Glenn Canin.
