People lack a reference point. They listen to very compressed music (very often MP3 128 kbps) and the music itself is created with already limited dynamics. And it's worth to mention: the original (by Snow Patrol) has never even drawn my attention.

People saying they prefer claudia's version are clearly just racially bias because Leona's version is clearly much stronger. She holds every note all the way through whereas claudia you could tell was at her limit with this song while leona Lewis sings it effortlessly. She made it look so easy. Claudia couldn't even hold her notes very long or put any extra runs to make it her own. She tried to copy leonas version and did "ok".
