Ireland played that game against the All Black as if it was another step to the final. The All Blacks played like it was the last game they’d ever play. Ardie Savea and Sam Cane were absolutely unbelievable that day and continuously smashed Caelan Doris among others back wards each time he carried. However, Ireland were still a whisker within winning that game if Kelleher didn’t break from that maul towards the end, but it’s a game of fine margins and NZ deserved their win. I have never ever in all my life watching sport been more gutted with a result than I was that evening. But I do think we were arrogant going in. Hopefully we learn our lesson.

I did, till the 5th minute, and thought, oopsie daisy, mighty toughest , most feared my ass. And then had to flush my underpants. We got very very very lucky. And then repeated the same against against 14 ABs less their captain from minute 28. We lead then throw it away , so close to losing it.

I didnt even watch the game. I had a bad feeling after France. My GF watched the game and I listened to her from my room. She was quiet for most of the game. Only heard her scream at the end. I was shocked we won. I couldnt believe it.

Im a Saffa and honestly we were concerned here. England did not have a hard route through RWC and were out of the spotlight. Rugby just has a way - when a team is the overwhelming favorite - to balance the odds. It was not SA fans but the rest of the world that said it was forgone. For me, England was gonna play our 2019 type game and it was a worry - especially when the rainy weather showed up on the day. Then England put in some hard hits... No Saffa's did not think it was forgone. Same with NZ. People say here it was tongue in cheek when the Irish said "see you in the final". Man if that is true as Eben says? wow, that is a mistake. AB's were wounded by the Twickenham game. With the AB's we've learned rather keep the tongue away from the cheek (no pun intended) and say nothing. I think Ireland's mistake was a psychological one - celebrating beating the boks might have told their subconscious "goal achieved" and regrettably post QF they flew home. And they are worth more than QF at least......

Based on Etzebeth's remark, not only were the Irish team overconfident, but they were also incredibly arrogant. When you reach the top four teams in the world competing against each other, the winning team is not necessarily the one that plays the best, but the one that makes the least mistakes. Just to clarify, it was not only James Louw who held up Eben, but rather three or four Irish players who also contributed to this.

Well let's face it, I'm surprised eben had any room to think he wasn't as arrogant, thinking what he thought, seeing as Ireland had just beaten us. And let's not forget that Ireland did come very very close to overcoming ABs . Those last 5 minutes of 30 to 50 phases was an awesome display of rugby ball in hand I've never seen a bok side ever produce. If the Irish had won, the web Ellis might very well be sitting in Ireland. After all, playing the ABs from the 28th minute with 14 men minus the captain we scraped in on the bones of our backside.

2:10 exactly, cause New Zealand have a history of replicating match outcomes at Rugby World Cups. They knocked us out in 03 in the quarter finals, if we kicked all our kicks over, we would've had to face NZL in the quarters and that's a no no...NZL knocked em out in 2019 and did so again. NZL then lost to us as well in the final like in 95.

By the sounds of it, most South African fans aren't giving Ireland a chance in the July series. World Champions or not, if the Springboks take Ireland lightly, they are going to embrass you and make you look very stupid. While Ireland aren't the best team in the world, that title purely belongs to South Africa and rightfully so. However, Ireland are the most consistent team in the world, that can't be contested.

As an Irish person I find it absolutely comical how easily triggered & angry South Africans are when it comes to Ireland. They lost to Ireland and it literally pains them to admit or acknowledge that Ireland were just the better team despite South Africa having an over shelling advantage by putting 7 forwards on the bench to Irelands 5. They couldn’t beat us at the World Cup. They never beat us in the European champions cup and rarely beat us in the URC despite being in the competition almost 4 years now. The last time they won something in Super rugby was almost 20’years ago and it looks like that trend is to continue. Lastly Etzebeth and co underestimated Ireland and were obviously arrogant beforehand so but rich from him to be calling Ireland arrogant. I think he’s just clearly embarrassed because a winger lifted him up and stopped him in his tracks 😂

Ireland beat South Africa fair and square in the world cup bud. I haven't seen any Saffa deny that. Definitely salty over the loss purely because we know we were beaten by the better team on the day. Another day it could have been a different story. That's just how rugby is when you pit the top two tier teams against each other. It's always close, sometimes down to one or two less mistakes than the opposition. That's why you're so grateful for the win. The AB's and Boks knows this well. We have a legacy of a rivalry. You guy's aren't accustomed to it. But, lets be real. Club rugby is not a representation of one's nation, international rugby is. Most of South Africa's top players and world cup winners don't play for our local clubs. They're all over playing for the EU and Japanese clubs. Even our coaches are coaching your clubs. And I second what @daviddempster8717 said.

@@kobuslouw9533 When South African clubs were playing Super rugby they had almost their entire world class players playing for them and didn’t win anything so that’s not an excuse. South Africa also has more registered rugby players than any other nation bar maybe France. 60+ million people and it’s practically the number 1 sport. Not far behind Soccer. In comparison Ireland has 6 million people and rugby is our 4th most popular sport here after Hurling, Gaelic football & Soccer so you can do the math there. Ireland has always punched well above its weight in many aspects of sports and other areas too. Our clubs dominate Europe and have done for the past 20 years. And our national team regularly beat South Africa, New Zealand, France, England, Australia, Scotland etc. Yes we have 2 or 3 kiwis in our side but let’s not forget that the majority of South African rugby players are of European descent. Not ethnically or genetically African whatsoever.
