For more context on Tonga and South Africa praying together. Grant Williams said in an interview that Tonga asked if they could pray for the Springboks for the quarters, semis and final. I just love the believe that the Tongan team had in the Springboks that they would pray for us up until the final. Southern Hemisphere Brotherhood on full display. We the South!!!!!!!💪🏽💪🏽🇿🇦🇹🇴💫💛

I don't think it's just because of the whole southern hemisphere thing. The Springbok players are mostly Christian, they all pray together before and after games, always have. The Tongans and other Polynesians teams do the same, that's the connection. Yes some aussies and ab's are Christian too, but they don't pray together in a huddle like the Boks and Tongans do.
@beukeshaasbroek
@beukeshaasbroek 19 күн бұрын
@cici2716 Honestly, I don't see how this has anything to do with why the players pray together?? You are talking about unions/boards voting on where a world cup will be hosted when bernard laporte and co obviously rigged the result, he is as crooked as they come. Same with qatar hosting the soccer, a lot of political motives and powers at play. Nothing to do with whether the players like each other or sticking together. Going by your logic why did we join the URC and Europe then?
@beukeshaasbroek
@beukeshaasbroek 19 күн бұрын
@cici2716 you sure got me good there cici, well done. That is exactly why I am on KZbin, to look for attention, you sure are attentive, I am sure nothing gets by you. My opinion is that the moment is all the more beautiful because both teams are made up of God fearing men, and that's the main thing that binds them, their common love for their Creator. If you want to base that on whether they are based on the same side of the equator then good on you, keep living in your north vs south fantasy. Do you honestly think most south africans are supporting the aussies when touring europe??? And that sir (assuming you are a man) will be my last reply as well, a good day to you 😉

For Rassie to be able to exert psychological pressure over such a truly diverse group of players is genius to me. He had them all ready to die for that jersey. They were conditioned to win years before the tournament even began. Massive emotional intelligence on display notwithstanding his supreme rugby IQ.

I’ve always viewed sport as a sort of proxy for war, rugby especially: two nations vying to bathe their people in glory at the expense of the other - a more civilised way to satiate our need to fight with (hopefully) less casualties! But this series has elevated things to almost mythological status. Honestly, it’s like something out of some epic poem, like the Iliad or something: a bunch of super-humans performing deeds us mere mortals could never imagine doing ourselves, while at the same time being so unashamedly human. The unfolding narratives, the speeches, the adversities that they’ve all overcome, and the intensity and scale is unlike anything I have ever seen in sport. And just like the epic tradition, every character has their own finest moment. Each and every one of them was instrumental in the Springbok campaign. The Chasing the Sun crew have done an absolutely amazing job. This is the new gold standard for sports documentaries in my opinion.
@Wolf-hh4rv
@Wolf-hh4rv Ай бұрын
I agree it’s almost a war proxy. But sadly World Rugby are now obsessing about player safety. Yes it’s important but they’re going too far and potentially ruining the physical clashes we want. Their other obsession is how fast everything is reset . I don’t know anyone so impatient about scrums they switch the TV off. WTF? We don’t care if people in Mexico think it’s boring. Just F off and stop interfering.

Not quite the Iliad, but here goes: In the thunderous clash upon the field of green, Where warriors roar and passions convene, Rugby, a spectacle of strength and might, Where titans collide in the heat of the fight. Behold these super-humans, bold and brave, Their valorous deeds, their nation's hearts engrave. They soar through the air, like eagles in flight, Yet grounded in grit, in the heat of the fight. With muscles of iron and hearts fierce and true, They battle for glory, on and on, through and through, But amidst the chaos, they reveal their human grace, In camaraderie shared, in every hard-fought embrace. They bleed, they sweat, they rise from the fray, Each moment a testament to the spirit at play. For rugby is more than just a game of might, It's a symphony of humanity, in its rawest light.

Watching this series, can you imagine a coach speaking this way to pro football players? They would throw a fit - "Don't talk to me like that!! Do you know who I am!!?" The respect these players have for Rassie - to allow him to talk to them "like a dad" - speaks a lot. Incredible characters. Incredible character.

To be fair, it's all down to the manager, Jose Mourihno and Pep for example do swear and scream at their players. They have the respect though so the players listen. If the manager does not have the respect of the change room then the players will react.

To be honest I think that there are soccer coaches that will roast their players ( and often the players leave). I’m not a Man United fan but I firmly believe that Alex Ferguson was the best club coach of all time .. he was famous for giving the hairdryer treatment to his players and he didn’t care if they were Cantona, Beckham or Ronaldo .. the second a player felt he was bigger than the team he was gone! As a result his team always played to the death. I am a Juventus fan… hated when they played Man Utd … they always came back !! But that is what makes a good coach .. he gets his TEAM to play better than their players . I am of the opinion that this Springbok TEAM is the best TEAM in rugby history. Some might say the All Blacks of 2015 I would argue they may be the best squad of players … but not the best TEAM. Don’t be to hard on other sports … Italy winning the 2020 Euros was also an amazing team performance … always give credit where it is due

Although we have 20:20 hindsight vision of the outcome of all the matches played, the series still leaves you wondering about the team’s ability to win. The use of the close up rugby action and hits and tackles by the film production team is also truly epic. Not only can one hear the bone jarring tackles, but you can almost feel them too! There is so much to take in that one needs to rewatch each episode again. Rugby coaching world wide will take a lot from this series, that ardent desire to win being the bottom line!

No the series has shown for me that no one should ever have doubted their ability to win games and even the cup. Don’t know how you could watch that and second guess their ability to win. Most enjoyable series I’ve watched in a long time. Just disappointed there will only be 5 episodes. I loved the part where Rassie says that Dan Human earns too much to only have one scrum against France in a game or something along those lines. 😂 Rassie is like the Sir Alex Ferguson of Rugby. A little hairdryer treatment here and there but like a 2nd dad to all his players. Beautiful stuff

Its refreshing to have a non South African understand how we do things, what we have gone through and respect us for how we are. We have faults, we often come across as arrogant perhaps (some supporters, not the players), but generally, this not how we are. We have had a rough past but these moments help to build us as a nation. In terms of the coaching staff, well, pity the team has been broken up but with Rassie at the helm, we remain super confident and its nice that very little is being said about politics in the sport. We can now hope that the government stays out of it. This team shows what can be done when you select on merit. Great review from your side, as always. I have just re-watched episode 3. It’s possibly some of the best TV ever produced, let alone the best sports doccie. Getting up that close and personal, and capturing the raw emotion. Incredible! Not to mention the inside insight of the genius that is the Bok coaching team.

I recall reading that after the 1956 Springbok tour to NS the relations between SA and Nieu Zeeland rugby unions were extremely strained.The SA union stated they will never tour NZ again. The reason was that the home team brought in a front ranker by the name of Kevin Skinner.He was apparently a boxer as well and selected to tame the Boks dominant front row.Obviously a few shots were fired in the scrums and the Bok's Daan Bekker's face was totally blooded at the end of the test. At a later meeting of the then IRB in London Doc Danie Craven of SA and Cuth Hogg (the NZ chairman) were apparently told to go to a room to discuss the matter privately and sort out the differences and not to come out before they have reconciled! Similar to what happened in the Bok squad during the recent WC!

As an ex-SADF soldier, I find Rassie and Jacque's dynamic, the way they motivate, inspire and manage their "manne", their relationship with their "troops", their tactics, their innovation, and even their language very familiar. Not much is made of how we South Africans were moulded during those days of National Service - concepts of "vasbyt", controlled aggression, brotherhood, officers who have their boots first on the battlefield and last off, leadership by example, Not much is made of our two coaches bond first forged in the SADF. But it must have had a bearing on how they do things today.

The way how Rassie empowered the 3 big dawgs to encourage cohesion and the unity that Team Rassie instilled on a cultural/racial level is 1 of the biggest success factors. Unity is at the core and technical stuff is all the bells and whistles. Hunt like a pack of WFD Love your content Big JIm.

Jim I wait for your reviews almost as much as i wait for the next episode You are insighful in all aspects The innovation that Rassie brings is surely remarkable The comment about other teams being unable to analyse the boks pattern of behaviour because of their creating depth through variation was an eye opener . What i like is the forward thinking Jaques has not gone to Leinster by chance He s gone to learn and will come back to input ino RWC 2027 The hand on the floor ? Was it body support or balance Ref saw it as balance not support

Thank you Jim for the candid and honest views on this tv series. You are voicing (as neutral or non-South African) the reasons why we think Rasssie and his coaching staff are such geniuses and why we knew those close wins were the result of hard work and planning every detail, because the same approach has been adopted the preceding 7 years. It explains why the Bok fans have such confidence in the team and coaches, which is often interpreted as ignorance or arrogance by those who have no clue as to what is going on behind the curtain.

Love your show… What non South Africans do not get is the significance of when Duane says “Eben and Sia braai together” What he is saying is that they are best mates….and he is not! Huge statement to us Saffers, considering that we all know the leadership role he plays … “They braai together”😂
