The EU's New Refugees: Waves of immigration have always been a source of political tension in Europe. Now, the EU is facing up to an unusual new migration worry: floods of migrants fleeing from the continent's faltering economies.
For downloads and more visit: www.journeyman.tv/?lid=65135&b...
The boom years are over, and now faltering European nations are all experiencing this new trend in emigration. In the Portuguese capital Lisbon, queues form outside African embassies as EU citizens try to acquire working visas. According to ex-pat Juliana Fleming, "I know many people who are trying to sell their homes in Portugal, to settle in Mozambique". 300,000 have left Spain since the banking crisis in 2008. Chef Carlos Garcia couldn't find work in Madrid, so instead went to look in Argentina. "You walk in the centre of Buenos Aires, and you feel like you are in Spain. I strongly recommend it to anyone who sees no future prospects". And though many of those escaping do wish to return if the situation improves back home, most aren't hopeful about how soon that may be. "First it was 2013, now they say 2014. We'll see."

Here in Scandinavia it has been severe cuttings in senior citizen benefits, health care and other instances that benifits the citizens. WE pay a fee for doctors appointments, we pay the full cost of dentistry. We pay our medicine ourselves. BUT THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS HAS IT ALL FOR FREE. Oh, they pay the dentist cirka 9$.

NickanM Same thing's happening in California. The legislature approved medical and dental benefits for undocumented immigrants. In addition to the load on social services, overpopulation from immigration is stressing the state's water resources and there will be a permanent drought no matter how much it rains. Farms are going out of business because more and more water is being sent to overpopulated cities.

+opiux1 Multiculturalism has always existed. Cricket came from India. Skinheads (the real ones, not the neo-Nazi scums) originated with Jamaican reggae from Jamaican immigrants. Chinese food came from China. And China and Japan took a great deal of their culture from the west. What multicultural means now is accepting a culture that has failed to evolve like the other ones. Japan, which took a lot of stuff from the Americans, has almost a zero tolerance policy for Islam because they believe it has failed to adapt to the 21st century. So far, it is the only first world country where this mass immigration of Muslims is not a problem.

i don't see how this is shocking. Europe has been bludgeoned with politically correct ideals such as diversity and multiculturalism and that has resulted in entire areas being dangerous for natives to go. meanwhile countries like Japan get to maintain their identity (99%+ natives) without it being 'shocking'.

Apples and oranges. Japan is an island, Europe is a continent. Japanese are one people, Europe has hundreds of nations, thousands of etnics and dozens of major immigrant groups (not because of EU, it has been this way for centuries.) Europe has been most diverse and multicultural place on Earth for centuries, nothing new here.

what i hate is passive aggressive "racist" sounding comments. Japan is one of the countries with the highest debt in the world. The economy in Japan is slowly declining. Before you would study in school and get a job in the office, almost guaranteed, however that Era is over in most places of the world. It's called change. You cannot sustain an economy that is based on capitalism or pure socialism forever. Japan, at least is in debt to Japanese people. Europe did not collapse because of Immigrants. That is a ludachris statement. it collapsed due to the global market economy decline in 2007. It collapsed under it's own capitalistic terms with bankers over estimating and not being risk averse.

Europe don't need ugly, violent third world invaders. These people by the millions have not been invited by the governments. They just show up and they were allowed to remain due to our own Christian beliefs in helping people. However, the people have never authorized the European governments to allow such huge numbers of so different and immoral people in their Countries. If manpower is needed they can found it among the EU Citizens, White people, and not with non-Whites who are changing Europe and all the White Nation to a point where they cannot be recognized. If people of the third world are suffering in their own Countries,if they don't have the means of subsistence of if the Police is after them is their damn business and not ours. It's their religions, their cultures, their way of life which makes them who they are. We European not only look different but have evolved differently from all the other people of the third world and want to live according to our civilization. WE belong among our White people and others belong among their own people.

The problem with the EU is the Euro, the creation of the Euro gave southern european countries the same low interest rate as Germany. The result was a spending boom. Now the crash and the missmatched economies can not devalue to correct the inbalance between northern and southern european countries. All this was predicted by the UK government before the Euro was formed, the heads of France and Germany addmited this would happen when the euro was formed, but said we will go ahead anyhow for politcal reasons. This shows the euro elite have one goal and to hell with anybody who stands in there way, of a united states of Europe. Germany is the big winner from the Euro keeping there exports lower in value with the weaker EU countries keeping the value of the Euro lower. Free these countries from the euro and they will grow quickly or very slow in the euro.

exactly, but my country choose to bring Syrians into our country instead of using all that money to help Greece and those in Syria. we are spending way more money on them coming here and we cant help nearly as many. Its crazy! and if you try to talk about this in a positive manner you are looked at as a racist. A racist for being logical with money? what world are we living in? are we not going to help twice as many people just cause we are afraid of being called racist? and what kind of psycho calls someone racist for wanting to save more human life's? there will always be poor people who want to run to another country but is that the most efficient way to solve the situation? it will only fuck up everything in the long run. I'm done with politics, the left is mindlessly pondering to get fucking "i'm not racist point" that you can brag about while you smile with a shit-eating grin and a dunce cap on your head. And the right wing politic is just horrible in every other aspect than immigration, but we are forced to vote on those fat yelling asinine zeroes. Because immigration is a real problem.

jvaa cvaa How many Europeans are in Africa stealing their money through corruption? What about human traffic to Europe? Is that what you call helping? Don't you think that If Europeans were really helping Africa, this country would be in the situation which it's? Well, I think you never thought about that... What about U.S.A and Australia, how many Europeans are there illegally? Have you ever thought that 80% of our generation in Europe are hight qualified? Do you think our European hight qualified generation will accept to work with workforce in the construction, agriculture, grounds keeping and the textile industry? Don't you know that illegal immigrants help the economy of your country? How do you think Americans survive? Use your brain, stop for 1 minute to think about your government, maybe they are ruining your country and washing your brain to not let you blame them! Don't you forget that one day (as I said before), you will be the future immigrant and I wanna see how it's gonna be… Wake up and be less arrogant!

jvaa cvaa regardless of why they come or whether they're in africa legally or illegally, it is still ironic. It is ironic because these are the same europeans that say to africans in europe "stay in your own country" despite the fact that there are more portuguese living in mozambique and angola than there are angolans living in the whole of the european union. There is also irony in the fact that these people who hated blacks so much in their own countries are now running to black countries to help them earn money.

One country that is doing very well despite the economic crisis in Europe is Germany. German companies have been building and building new factories and complexes throughout Europe. That's good because it helps people to find jobs. It's funny that Germany is cashing out very well on the misery of the other European states. Nothing against Germany. I personally love Germany. Yet they have a large monopoly now. France has one issue immigration. Spain is on the brink of seeing a war. In which Catalan will become it's own independent nation. Slovenia is facing issues too. Hungary, Greece, Italy, and Portugal to.

My personal experience of immigrants in the North East of England. (North East has lowest % immigration in UK). Having know several immigrants personally I've found that the vast majority have come to Britain with the 'Dream' of getting rich. Obviously this illusion is soon shattered and they drift into the 'Black' economy or as it's called in other countries the 'Criminal' economy. One Italian I knew went to prison for handling stolen goods 'receiving' . most had their own small business mainly in FOOD retail and where rather dodgy to say the least like Arthur Daley! Handling stolen good, business fraud, mysterious fires for insurance fraud etc etc. One applied for multiple loans on multiple bank accounts..amazingly this trick worked as he bought a house in a false name with the money. Most immigrants remind me of 'Artful dodger' in Oliver Twist....'got to pick a pocket or two'! Obviously not all immigrants are like this, but with no control over our borders we can't vet who comes in. Whether these comments are anti-immigrant..I'll let you decide..buy could we go to another country and do these things without some sort of backlash from the indigenous population ?

Thanks your documentaries are good. Pleased to hear there are some growing African states. Whats happening in Europe is very complex, oddly we decided to re-invest in a banking system after a global financial crisis caused by that very banking system and its has backfired, made worse by austerity cuts that stem growth and little investment going to new business. Many people as you will see on YT have taken to blaming immigrants for the lack of money and decent work but the Portuguese have shown the way forward. European states should seek to encourage more of their citizens to apply their skills abroad and help to develop the 3rd world.

This is the reality as I see it today. Western Civilization has entered a period of terminal decadence similar to the terminal decadence of the Roman Empire which is the base of Western Civilization. These people seeking work in Africa as similar in their own way to the conservative Christians of the Anglican tradition seeking the protection of African bishops. This is similar to what many Roman citizens were forced to do in response to an incompetent & impotent Roman gov't. They sought the protection of the new more vigorous, more noble invading Nordic kings. Many of them new converts to Christianity. Not to say that decadent Western influences haven't caused damage in those African nations. Most of their gov'ts were led by Western educated Marxists whose rule was generally ruinous. I am devote Christian, I believe self indulgent intellectuals have ruined the foundation of Western Civilization. W/o its Christian foundation to sustain it, it is naturally & inevitably collapsing. I think the time has come to focus our energies on founding the next Christendom, which will be "3rd World" Christendom.

7:51 Err, she's wrong. Mozambicans aren't helping the Portuguese. The companies found something precious in the ground and need to build and infrastructure around it and there simply aren't many Africans with this sort of technical know-how. The Mozambican people actually had very little to do with all this.

Pope Leo XIII was very wise to condemn both capitalism and Communism in his encyclical Rerum Novarum. He knew that Europe would have nothing but trouble with these anti-Christian ideologies. In the name of "progress" you are forced to pick one of them which is really frustrating because they will both destroy you.

Immigration is a natural part of human life. The modern world would not exist without massive human emigration from Africa. I can't argue that now we can say no more immigration. All of the sudden modern humans can put up fences and say no more people, we own this land. It's anti-human and will fail. People are people. not matter where you go or where they go. As an American who has been a legal and illegal immigrant in Europe, I can say from experience that immigrant life is a struggle.

The EU is just a toy for the EU countries. Our EU leaders did a very terrible job and they play with the lives of millions of people in Europe. The EU countries like Spain, Italy, Ireland where strong countries but now these countries are in big trouble. Also in the Netherland there are lots of very poor Dutch people and families who have to go to places where they can get free food that is raised by an organisation. These people often had good jobs but where not able to keep their job and to pay for their houses. There are about 230.000 very poor children in the Netherlands. On the Dutch television we never see these poor people and they never show their situations.

Some of this is not so bad. If Mozambique is more sane than Europe -- fine, take Mozambique. At least people have somewhere to go. The "logic" of "you need to stay to help the country" is false. People are unemployed because their country does not need them. By going where they are needed they help themselves and the country. As the video says, Portugal is benefiting from emigration to Angola, Mozambique and Brazil. The way that Austrian company advertised in Spain -- that's the way to handle immigration. If European countries behaved like this instead of opening themselves to every scum on earth, Europe would continue flourishing. But even here at 21:43 Christian Kappacher talks the death talk of "opening up of provincial mentality" and "greater cultural diversity." Many Europeans have been sold Socialist dream: "The government will help you in all your needs." And then, when the economy collapses and the government's ability to pay collapses, they end up in poverty, blame the government, and demand the government turn everything around. Which is impossible. The way out of the crisis is less government and more private enterprise, but this means at first (and who knows for how long) lower pensions and stipends and more layoffs, and try to tell the suffering that it is their duty to suffer. This is why the booming region is not Europe in the future (even though the talk of BRIC is exaggerated, especially about B(razil) and R(ussia)). Little by little, Europe descends into the typical socialist morass, like Cuba, Venezuela, or any other socialist state.

I agree, socialism is the root cause. European women are currently having a birth rate of far less than the replacement level of 2.1 live births per woman. Since socialism needs an ever expanding tax-base, the EU bureaucrats imported millions of unassimilatable cheap labor. We need: a return to nationalism, a return to free markets, a return to sovereignty!

Language zones: English- US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Israel, India, Bangladesh, every country in Europe EXCEPT FRANCE & SPAIN, Russia, and All Asian countries. Spanish- Spain, Central & South America, and Mexico. French- France, all of Africa, and all middle eastern countries. What does everyone think?

Spain and America are living parallel lives, every social and economic issue is the same worries and issues Americas have been dealing with since the 1970 inflation gas crisis, mass immigration mass unemployment and massive losses to our homes because of no jobs. American are angry because the US gov is allowing our borders open when the American( including south and central) people do not even have work for themselves, so they trek to America in search of work to feed their families..meanwhile we all slave to pay off our debts..:-(

People will always go where the money flows. You have to eat, drink, take care of your health, and have a place to live. Unless you are living out in the wilderness you gonna have to go where you can make money. Its the way our "modern" society is and how it will be as long as we have the economic climates we have today.

I feel like one day the world will have a mix of all people throughout the world. Before, such travel was practically impossible. Now you can get on a plane and end up in china the next few days. It's quite incredible, knowing that your ancestors would have killed for access to such trade routes. All the racists are worried about something that will never happen. Be happy when you see immigrants, most want a better life and want to work as an integral part of society. Here in the states, many latino immigrants want to come to the US to work, and I admire their tenacity. There are fat slobs that everyone knows wont get on their knees and pick beans, demand they leave, hurl insults and threaten their children with death, yet they come to work for a mere fraction and still have a positive attitude about America. That's incredible.

a sensible measure could be to limit free-movement only to citizens resident in member-states that have joined the Single Currency. After all, its hardly fair on workers in the Eurozone to compete with workers outside it - given once the latter send their money home it's the equivalent of two months wages. So in effect they are being paid more for doing the same job. Moreover, the present crisis demonstrates the folly of multiple currencies operating within a single political entity. If all EU member-states were compelled to use the Euro, migration from poor East to rich West would slow considerably.

The root cause of the problem are the PEOPLE themselves, not banks, not politicians. See for yourself at 1:40, the same guy who opts to take a job in a foreign country that is more free & prosperous, is still advocating in 17:30 for the same anti-free market policies that are wrecking his own country and making his people poorer. If the people in your country do not learn from these Portuguese idiots - you will suffer the same consequences, and look for a job in Africa...
