In this video titled EU4 A to Z - DO NOT FORM Japan as Gelre I do a playthrough as Gelre Europa Universalis 4 1.33 France. This is the series titled A to Z where I attempt to play every* nation in EU4 in alphabetical order. Of course I had to remove some nations so the challenge doesn't get too boring. In this video I play as the nation of Gelre, and I attempt to form the nation of Japan. starting with a little twist. So let's see if I managed to do it! I hope you guys enjoy this series. Imagine being a Japanese guy that just visited this new weird country that appeared out of nowhere just a day ago and you look at their flag and there's this weird creature that has never been mentioned in mythology or anyone has ever seen

There were/are lions in India and they spread in iconography all over Asia, including Japan. I mean there likely weren't lions in the Netherlands either and they still knew about them. Don't underestimate historical people.

@@harbingerofsarcasm2510 There were lions, well large cats at least all across europe, Lions seemed to stick around the mediterranean from what i can tell, all kinds of now considered "exotic" animals were everywhere in europe, even native animals are sometimes considered foreign. the big reason for this is that Europe is one of the longest-lived in places in the world and a lot of those people didn't like lions and such being close to their house so they killed as many of them as they could find. Edit: they were definitely gone by the times of the Netherlands or England existing, the Romans were importing them from Asia and Africa a thousand years before. but them existing halfway between mythology and history makes it reasonable that they appear on so many coat of arms and things like that.

Genoa starts with only coastal provinces. So as Genoa, control only coastal provinces and try to encircle as many seas as possible. Black sea, adriatic sea, mediterreanan, maybe even the baltic or red seas lol.

You should create two stacks of transports and put cannons in the second one. Land the marines first to occupy the pot and dock the ship with your cannons….I think it’s fun. Or use marines to force docked enemy ships out of port into combat with your ships

Maritime and Naval are great if you actually make use of your fleets. You don’t need armies if they enemy can’t move their troops to you.

My last shogunate run i had like a siege stack or two in each expansion region, this way you do the heavy lifting and ai siege non-fort provinces. It was pretty fun with influ ideas and its vassal forcelimit

You could have made it more exciting if you started at a later start date (dip tech 7?), then went colonial for the range enough to get into Taiwan, then maritime/naval to pirate Ming for schmoney to fund your annexation of Japan little by little. If you form Japan as a Christian, there’s an achievement I think. A reformed or catholic Japan would be funny
