I remember that in my first campaign ever Mantua established its own colonial empire. It had small colonies in both Americas, quite a lot in Africa and Indonesia and a couple of islands all over the globe. I had no idea what that nation was, the name didn't ring any bell. It was located somewhere in the Lowlands, so I just assumed it's a minor Dutch nation that didn't manage to form proper Netherlands. Much later, when I knew the game better, I figured they must have gotten the Burgundian inheritance in that campaign.

If anyone is wondering, I spent the last half an hour searching for why Ludovico III Gonzaga was called "il Turco" (The Turk). I couldn't find any source which gave me the exact answer but it's probably an honourary title bestowed upon him by the Pope because he held a council in Mantua that called for a holy war against the Ottomans.

as far as I know, the brothers both had names like these. Carlo The Milan under venice beat both his brother and state of milan. Ludovico The Turk under pope beat basically everyone trying to invade milan after his brothers death. So the "Turk" refers to brutality he did while under pope.

You have to use the "Return core" peace deal option to benefit from your reduced province war score cost modifiers. If you just give vassals their provinces directly, you use their own modifier (or lack thereof). Only exception is the War goal that is cheaper to give directly.
