So, reformation does not need a German nation to spawn or anything like that. It's just dependent on how many catholic nations there are essentially. Reformation desire increases from every catholic nation getting events and choosing like "buy indulgences" or w/e. When you remove a majority of catholic nations from the map, the event doesn't trigger nearly as much as it would normally. And remember, sometimes they choose not to buy indulgences and may decrease reformation desires slightly instead with the event. It's why the reformation took forever in the unified HRE video.

The reformation was late because of how reform desire is generated. The reformation occurs when reform desire hits 100%. reform desire goes higher based on events that are occurring in all catholic countries, but because the number of catholic countries went way down so too did the amount of events occurring that could raise reform desire.

Btw the Romans absolutely didn’t conquer the known world, and The Romans knew as much. They knew about Perisa obviously but, they also knew about the Han Dyansty, The German and Pontic Tribes, The rest of Great Britian (including Ireland), aswell as having limited knowledge of India. Theres also evidence of them knowing about and Interacting with Aksum (modern Eithiopia) although this is less documented.
