We have two of these EH1700-3s of the same year. I was told that ones we have were given up by rudd to our dealer in Ontario (wajax) & rudd got two later ones built. These trucks are built at the hitachi (old euclid) plant in Guelph, Ontario, CANADA. Ours have the single speed reverse & they are slow in rev compared to a 777. They need the two speeds in rev. I find the engines noisy from the turbos & the allison shifts are brutal. They do ride nice & have great power though. Thanks PA mining

This truck is actually 95.2 metric tons, or 104.9 standard/American ton. I love your channel by the way. I worked on Euclid and Hitachi for years and years.

Good vid. Nice machines - and I always like to see lots of work lights on a machine. There's even one in the engine compartment as well as facing back over the two tanks.

@44selfdestruct According to Hitachi the standard tires are 27.00 R49's for front and rear but like with any truck, optional brands and tread designs are always available

I drive the one with 2 reverse speeds. I use the slower reverse for backing up to get loaded and I use the faster reverse for backing up to the hopper which is about 150ft. I definitely like having the faster reverse it saves a lot of time when you have to back up a long distance. Ours has a Detroit series 60 in it, it's not as fast as a cat 769, the acceleration is slow but it probably saves the engine from wear. All in all it's a good truck but the mirrors don't have the best placement but you get used to it.

Nice vid. I wonder about that extra reverse gear. Maybe it's one of those things that you think is stupid until you use it and then you wonder how you did without it up until now.

@farmboy26ful Well for one thing it's cleaner running and much newer than the 71 series. Maybe someone who knows the engines better will chime in. I can tell you that a lot of mine operators I talk to don't like the reliability of the Detroit’s in the Hitachi's. One owner I talked to actually called Hitachi in to swap the Detroit’s out for the Cummins in a fleet of EH1100s after only a few thousand hours!
