If you want us delver drivers to use them ditch the codes to open them. Leave them unlocked put a scale at the bottom and have them automatically lock when it detects weight or a package. We really don't have time to mess with trying to open them we are on tight time schedules and I at least have 200 stops a day. Seconds turn into minutes, minutes turn into hours really fast.

That's a US problem though. In other (civilized) parts of the world, delivery people actually have to ring the doorbell and wait for you to answer. They can't just leave packages without your permission (although most do leave them if a safe, hidden location is available), and they most definitely can't just toss the package somewhere near your front door. Opening a box will always be quicker than waiting for somebody to open the door, so yeah, this works fine. Once again, it's the US mentality that's the issue.

Deal beakers for me are: No auto closing of the lid, no option for using memory card to be used without homebase, no hardwired power option, and the reminder to close the box should be immediately after the box opens. Most delivery drivers when they press my eufy video doorbell are already walking away after they press the button. Keeping that in mind, a minute after the box has been opened the driver is already back in their vehicle and driving away (assuming they used the box in the first place).

Thanks for your review LifeHackster! Great solution! Unfortunately, delivery people are lazy. They just care about dropping it off. They don't even ring the bell anymore. I agree need some mechanism to integrate with carriers. Amazon' key (garage delivery model) works great. Maybe incentivize the carriers to build the integration? Similar to a signature confirmation service, the delivery person will scan the Eufy Smart Delivery box and use a secure code (I imagine via Bluetooth) to open the smart box using their handheld mobile device and make the drop off. Once it closes, the transaction is concluded and notifications/confirmations are sent.

$400 is totally reasonable given all the work that goes into it. I actually tried making one myself about 2 years ago, made out of wood and some hardware from home depot lol but I got quickly overwhelmed with the electronics and safety precautions to prevent, let say kids trying to hide inside and then become trapped in it. There is videos here in youtube of people building their own delivery boxes. Plus it wasn't going to look as neat as Uefy's. I just hope more companies come up with their own delivery boxes. I mean Amazon already did this with their lockers they have at certain locations. I might buy this

Amazing review as always! I would absolutely love one of these except it seems that it really should have a motor to automatically close the box after. Maybe I’ll wait for that version in the future. Also Eufy in general is pretty awful about sticking to their promises about future updates so I wouldn’t hold my breath on homebase support. The homebase 2 for example still has no option to utilize the USB port and their cameras still have that devastating “sync” security flaw that they keep kicking the can on. That’s being picky though, this is a pretty cool device compared to what else is out there.

I think its a great first start. I'm with a lot of people though, if I got it for review from Eufy I would gladly use it, but at the current price for a first-gen item that clearly needs some improvements, I would pass. I'm very concerned about when you build it, you have access to the screws from the outside. (If I'm remembering from the video correctly regarding putting all the side panels on). They need to build the entire unit so you are only accessing screws from the inside of the box. And not being able to close it remotely or where you can set it to close by itself when someone walks away is a big deal to me.Again, I get it. Its the first Generation and that would add even more cost. Its still a good product without those features and I hope other companies will take note and build their own versions with those things included.

I have had a wall mounted box for many years. Inside dimensions 16" deep, 18" wide and 20" high. It has a door with a pull handle and is plainly marked "parcel delivery". I don't use the lock which is designed to lock after the door is opened. The USPS is most likely to put parcels inside (Texas and we have rural mailboxes, so they understand boxes) but UPS, Fedex and Amazon only put 1 of 10 packages that would fit, inside. More often they place them on top to take a picture with their phones. I like the Eufy box but it's huge and I don't have room for it.... and I doubt it would be used much.

And for those who had or are still having bad experiences with drivers, report them. You might think nothing happens but they will be reprimanded. Trust me I know, I've lost 4 co workers in the last 2 weeks due to bad costumer compliance. If enough complain we can actually get people who cares about doing there job right. no matter how much it sucks. This is a solution for US only. In other Countries like here in Germany delivery guys have to ring the bell to give the packages to you personally. If not they try to get a neighbor to take it or if nobody is at home they take it with them and drop it at the nearest post office, so you can get it from there a day after. It's not allowed to drop the package infront of your house if you weren't giving them permission to do so. So we don't have porch pirates here.

I got one the other day, and the box is set up for permanent wiring using a hole on the back and a socket near the battery so it’s not dependent on the battery.

I'm ignoring the fact that most US delivery people won't use this thing. Thankfully, there's other countries out there where packages can't just be tossed somewhere near the front door, and the delivery people actually have to wait for you to open the door, or come back on a different day. For them, this would be a big time saver. More on the box though: It's too complicated. It's actually worse than just having one of those one-way lids. I'm not sure if they exist in the US, I'm pretty sure there's something like that out there, but in the Netherlands these lids are on so many containers. Underground garbage containers, clothing donation containers, you name it. Basically you open the lid, which provides a relatively small area for you to place your stuff. If you close the lid, it'll open on the other side, and allow the object you placed to drop into the box. Open the lid again, the other side closes and the front opens, ready for new objects. No power required, no option for the 3rd delivery guy to leave the box open and still have all your packages stolen or get rained on, it's just better. Just add a camera and some kind of sensor to it and you have a much better solution that doesn't have any of the glaring issues that this box has. For the record, the glaring issues: - Reliant on delivery drivers closing the lid - If you receive multiple packages on a day, everybody except the first guy has access to whatever's already inside the box - Relies on battery power for main functionality There's probably more, but these are the ones I have at the top of my head.

1. Put a box code when you order 2. Delivery person decides to just leave the package next to the eufy 3. Porch pirate looks at the package, sees the box code, and then opens your eufy too

hey LF , after watching your review of the wyze cam floodlight i was left astonished ! cheap floodlight with a wyze cam v3 for $100, local storage , additional usb port to add another v3 for more coverage , etc etc . i went ahead and bought the wyze cam floodlight after weeks of research and i honestly am regretting it . theirs two known bugs that users are experiencing and that wyze knows about and is currently working on an update for it . the two bugs are when you open up the live view the floodlights turn on and when you’re viewing the live feed and motion is detected the floodlights will turn on it . this is really annoying . my floodlights are turning on and off all night . i manually turned off the floodlights bc it’ll be on and off all night . wyze is working on an update but the question i have is will the update fix it and is wyze good at fixing these issues … i have until the 23rd of january to return the floodlight . should i return it or wait for the update ….

I think having a physical code is better than something wireless. As we seen home security systems has been broken in with key fobs. Let's hope these have no weak points for forced break ins but idk if people are even gonna try that just to steal a package.

I can make a stout and attractive wooden box much bigger than that with a simple padlock on it. Cost of $60 in materials. Delivery person drops the package in and snaps the padlock shut. If you won't be home, time your deliveries so that you don't get more than one per day. I'd also post a sign asking the delivery people to PLEASE use the security dropbox. You'd be surprised how cooperative people are if you just ask nicely. I don't agree delivery people wouldn't use it, because I made a box like that for my elderly mother and so far, only one package hasn't made it into the porch box (but the FedEx guy hid the package BEHIND the box, so it still kinda worked!). And yes, there's a sign on the front of the box that asks delivery people to please secure packages in the box.

In my testing, there is only 1 that didn't even bother and another just because the box is too big. My USPS guy which you saw on the video places it in the box and has learned it and is the one that delivers to the house 90% of the time.

@@johnbod I have had a smaller simple box for years. USPS uses it. UPS, FedEx and Amazon 1 out of ten. Mine is plainly marker "Parcel Delivery" and has a simple door to open. I just wanted parcels out of sight. I have seen many doorbell cam videos of them putting the parcel on top of the box to take a picture. I wish I had just put a big flower pot that would block the view of porch pirates.

I wonder if it would be easier to just have a barcode scanner for the delivery person to just scan the shipping label. A quick lookup on the carrier's site to make sure the parcel is currently out for delivery to my address and, if so, pop the lid. If it's a carrier that we don't support then just ring the smart doorbell and the property owner pops the lid on their smart phone. Using a linear actuator alongside a strut would mean the box would open automatically and could also close automatically if the delivery person doesn't push the open/close button after placing the parcel inside (a simple ir beam sensor across the top should pickup something going in) and then start an ~60 second timer. Additional BOM costs wouldn't be much for way more convenience.

This feels kinda weird. It’s not like doorbells cameras now I’m not sure if people are going to treat this the same because they are so used to leaving things at the door and there is this new thing. While it’s going to slow down theifs couldn’t rhe theif do the same thing from the Eufy as the mailman? It would be better if there was something like a one way box like one that lets packages go in but you must unlock it to get it like some of those mailboxes
@Dan_Capone
@Dan_Capone 2 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking. You can install a one way door in a wall or anywhere and it would be cheaper and much more useful since the delivery guys don't need to bother with pin numbers or anything, they just toss the package in there and that's it. And porch pirates can't get to it, save for completely destroying the door and causing property damage, which they won't do.

$400 for this? Costco had another brand last year (this same size) for $40. It doesn't have IoT functionality, but it gets the job done. I have mine paired with a $40 Ring camera. The key to these is that you need to be able to leave them closed but unlocked, so the delivery driver doesn't have to key in if it doesn't have anything in it .. way easier for them. Unless you're away or getting multiple deliveries a day, it won't slow them down any.

Here the delivery guys are required to ring the door bell. For me, it's easier and cheaper to put an empty trash bin and attach a note over my bell, "put packages in the green trash bin near the door". No one (unless people who read this) will know that green trash bin is full of packages or even food lol
