Well done Steve. It's unfortunately time for a consumer security system and I will spare the obvious reasons. I thought Nest was the sure way to go. After watching numerous videos - thank you! - I'm actually leaning towards the Eufy S40 - this coming from a Google fan.

You are right Steve, these are security cameras, so apart from the video and audio quality, would you please say your feedback about their motion/person/face/animal/package detection reliability please, in daylight and night time? thank you! this is where my attention falls the most.
@marcoontingco53703 жыл бұрын
i agree, Nest's day shot is way better than Eufy's but as you walked towards the back with shadow Nest can't pick details up and Eufy's "washed out" capture comes in handy. Nest audio quality is superb something that Eufy is not too good at. But the night shots were all Eufy at this comparison no doubt.

After owning Nest for a year at our new home, I'm extremely disappointed that the Nest does not notify me 100% of the time when people approach the door or cars pull into the driveway (more like 50% and then will notify me way more often for shadows). For that reason, I've been looking to try Eufy. Saving $60/yr on storage doesn't hurt too.

you forgot to mention the delay in your discussion. You mentioned it slightly in the caption but did not discussed about it. To me it is very important. That is why I prefer Nest over others like Arlo/Ring, etc. I had tried others but Nest is the best so far regarding the delay. It is important to catch the act when it is starting rathe than late even for few seconds

Although the Eufy was clearer at night, without the spot light,, i still could not see a clear face image from all the way back at the gate, so despite being a little clearer than the nest, without the clear face image from that distance, i think i still prefer the nest as it wins with audio and day pic
@kelalamusic9258 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps from a photographer’s standpoint, the Nest does win, but from a security standpoint, the Eufy wins. When you look at the footage from the Eufy, it shows more details in the shadows, even on your face, and that’s what we want. Having the spotlight is a plus, and for one big reason, alerting the bad guy that he is detected and hopefully, if he had half a brain, would leave the premises. The winner for me, is the Eufy. After all, it’s a security camera. Nice comparison video.

I think you left out a big plus for the Nest camera. If this is for security, and it only turns on when it detects motion, you want a security camera that is very sensitive to motion. The Eufy camera had a delay on activation both times you showed side by side shots. If that is a car driving by your house, it is quite possible by the time Eufy turns on, the car is out of frame. Also, no mention of testing how long each camera stayed on, or if there was a delay in reactivating once it went back into sleep mode from lack of motion. As much as picture quality is important, if it never turns on, or doesn't pick up the right shots, the camera is worthless.

I have had an eufy set up for a while now and con say the motion detection is terrible many times doesn’t pic up people walking up to the house and walking away at all other times car driving past well out of the activation zone will trigger a notification.

Thanks for the review. I'm not one that's big on home security systems, because most are monitored either on the cloud or by a hub (like ADT). I just don't trust putting that content on the cloud or putting it in the hands of someone in a call center. I really like that Eufy has a local storage, where I can monitor my own content. I think Eufy is the big winner here. For me, the main reason to have a home security system is to have good quality night coverage. That spotlight feature was "bar none". I'm glad that it picks up the color and detail of the shirt and shorts while having good coverage on the face. Hidden or spotlight on: I'd go for the spotlight on. If someone is brave enough to get over the gate and sees the spotlight, I can describe to the cops exactly what the perp/unsub was wearing and which way he fled to. Having the spotlight off in order to capture the crime in its entirety, to me is counter productive. You can't really tell what the criminal was wearing because it was in b/w. That color detail is a game changer. Day/evening coverage: I personally can deal with the slightly washed out daytime coverage. Its not so bad that the shirt/bottom detail is unrecognizable.
@nickhemphill2 жыл бұрын
I'd say Nest's biggest limitation is that it is 100% internet dependent. Your internet goes down, you have no footage during that time. Eufy allows you to record full time and retrieve that information from the camera through their cloud service. What I mostly don't like about Eufy is the 15 fps compared to the 30.

Hi Steve, ive been watching lots of your videos but keen to get your option on location and positioning of the cameras. I took delivery for the Eufy 2C and mounted one of them approx 10-12 Ft and found the pickup especially at night was pretty poor. Home base is very close so no issues there. Bit of a catch 22 if youre supposed to mount it lower then its more accessible to thieves on your property. I noticed you have cameras mounted up pretty high on your house and wondered what you were using. Thanks

I don't like spot cameras because as seen in your example it ruins the video recording. I like separate motion lights and then cameras but realize others want an all in one. Good video Steve, I found the audio was not good on the Eufy. I was really surprised it was t better. I would like the bad guys to see the cameras as a deterrent. Believe it or not I have a geenie camera In my window (indoor) and considering I paid around $30 (CDN) I think it does a neck of a job, including sending part of a file to my local police when they requested it. I also have two Blink cameras which I like but, their detection field is to small.

I feel like they should be able to improve their night shots. Unless they're isn't a starlight sensor. But I agree is take eufy at this point. The audio being so much better on the best is the big thing. As long as you can get a general idea of color for police descriptions.

Great video! Informative but not unnecessarily long. Considering that I most likely would need security cam video from events in the dark, the night vision quality gives the Eufy cam a huge advantage over the Nest. And that's without considering the spotlight feature. My take away from this comparison is that there's no good reason to choose the Nest over the Eufy 2C Pro.
@ashneal31043 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review Steve. I can't justify the higher base price of the nest, plus the ongoing subscription fees you'd have to pay, to make it on par with Eufy's local storage. Nice system but Eufy doesn't have a powerful outdoor siren or a flash light. Burglars are mainly startled by a powerful siren, which the Eufy system cannot offer! Eufy does have a beeper (alarm) on the homebase and the camera, but with that you tell the burglar exactly where the camera and the Eufy homebase are. If he also takes it with him, then you have nothing because the video images are stored on the homebase! And the beeping sound from the camera or the Eufy homebase is far from powerful. A pitty for Eufy security system and a missed opportunity.
