Eugène Gigout's TOCCATA is by far the most well-known work by the composer and is regarded as one of the great French symphonic organ fanfares. In this video I play the movement on my Hauptwerk home organ on the magnificent sample set of Caen - St. Etienne sample by Sonus Paradisi.
The Toccata is composed in 1890 in can be found as the last piece in the collection "10 pièces pour orgue".
Gigout loved the Saint-Augustin Church in Paris. In fact he stayed there for 62 years as an organist. He was a pupil of the great Camille Saint-Säens and later came to be a great pedagogue who founded his own organ school.
Gigout lived a long life and died in Paris 81 years of age. He left us a great collection of popular organ pieces, the Toccata being the crown jewel of them all.
