At one time, during the late 1950s and early 1980s I was a huge fan of The Shadows and a bit less so of The Ventures. This was when guitar Instrumental music was at its peak. But it wasn't long until The Shadows sanitised their sound choosing to become mostly a covers band. Sad.y for me, their choice of musi to record - then current pop tune of the time where my own tasted became more blues and The Rolling Stones. I've seen the band play live and had a collection of concert vidios. The best of these was recorded at a performance in The Netherlands with George Ford on Fender bass. After the band changed to what I thought of Elevator Music, the tunes piped into an elevator as background music known more commonly as "Muzak" I was finish with The Shadows. They've always icovered current popular "Pop" music and Standards on their albums, but by the mid 1960s their early magic and Hanks lead sound became pinched and squeezed, I quickly missed their original line-up of players when first Tony Meehan left the band followed latter by bassist Jet Harris. The Shadows once edgy look was lost and that changed everything.The interest that I once had, was diminished, but out of habit an loyalty - nostalgia too, I suppose, Iv3e still maintained at least some interest.

Yes, what we mean by "The Shadows" is the great instrumental music of the 60s, especially the unique melodic world of the early years. In which, of course, other great bands also participated: The Ventures, The Spotnicks, The Tornados, Duane Eddy and others. I try to bring back this experience with my guitar playing.
