For year's I've been using edge mode for plexi like sounds. It always sounded to me it was closer than my mini jubilee could get. But I never really played a real plexi. Now you just proved my ears were right. Mark V really can get most tones close enough that you will not miss other amps. It's just not so easy to dial.

If you haven't tried one yet, I highly recommend getting your hands on a Mesa Triple Crown. It's much more vintage high gain modded marshall type sounds.

Tremendously helpful in shaping the Plexi tone!! Thanks for putting in the work to find the sound, make the video, and most importantly - sharing your settings! Your Mark V lesson is actually helping me to understand the interactive nature of the EQ settings, volume and gain! Outstanding video! Thanks again!

It would make sense on Ch1 since the tone stack is pre-gain on that channel but Ch2 and Ch3 have their tone stacks post gain.

EUGE, Metallica Ride the Lightning used G12-65 speakers which Kirt used a TS9 tube screamer but James used an orange ibanez OD850 or stacked with a TS9. They also used the ADA preamp but you should make a video lesson about this because they were trying to make a marshall plexi get that mesa boogie sound.

I agree my mk3 is loose on the bottom end and fizzy on the high freqs got a plexi drve pedal sounds incredible. But to a trained 👂 Marshall nailed the frequency landscape as far as OD channel. So the boogie is EB stereo volume for clean. Nice equipment n monster tone as always Euge.👍

i feel the recording has a little bit fluffy lows... both sound close, but i believe the plexi has more organic sound and you can feel that when you hit the string with the pick. There is no other amp that can give you that feedback. You can try to replicate the sound of one or another amp with Eq or post EQ if you like, but the feeling when you hit the string is unique in the plexi...

With humbuckers I usually like the bass around 3 or to tighten things up. Still has plenty of low end especially when the power amp is cranked. On my old Mark III I had the pre bass 2 or less because any higher would get woofy, especially at lower tunings but the graphic eq I’d have the bass boosted.

Am i hearing this right?, the plexi seems to have more high frequency bite, more treble/presence. I thought it'd be just the opposite?

@EugeValovirta230V Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I’ve done a few albums with real amps into reactive load with Jens Bogren’s IRs which I still do every now & then. But the reactive load and IRs have to be really good to get the same vibe & sound than with mic’d real cabs 👌. Real deal is always a real deal 💪.

@twintriode9 ай бұрын
I recently read a forum post someone had where they compare the V to the VII. Totally a worthless review for many reasons, but his comment on Tweed and Edge was icepicky. I argued his statement for a tiny bit, but I probably shoulld have linked this video to him. The Mark V is an awesome amp. I don't care what channel or mode its awesome.
@Eliphas_ElricАй бұрын
Edge is icepicky through v30s and if you don't have the channel master cranked up.
@nonamejustbecause-b9k2 ай бұрын
I could tell...the Mesa just has a hollowness in certain frequencies that the Marshall fills out. (That channel on the V is REALLY kinda wonky and doesnt make a TON of sense...they took the crunch....REALLY upped the highs on the edge and the lows on the Mark 1...and thats it..the only difference is one cap per channel....magik huh?)...I own the V and it is kinda of an easy shortcut to certain sounds (like Santana is Mark 1 with all controls at noon...straight up black magic woman tone)...and I hate the overt sag of the V when used that way....not sagged so much as STARVED for power.

boogie sounds like a plexi in a modeler lol. plexi irl is darker as this comparison shows
@AndyDrudy7 ай бұрын
There is WAY too much gain on that sound to make a usefull comparison. I find it totally impossible to make my MK5 sound anything remotely like a Marshall. Channel 2 is useless without the EQ engaged. You must roll off the bottom end on the channel eq because the Boogie is soooo way bottom heavy. If you don't, any random bass player you might play with will hurl abuse at you untill you do. What is true is trying to get that top end bite is totally impossible on Ch2 of a Mk 5.
