Nice playlist art. Also, I second the Roma Universalis recommendation. Seeing you take on the formation of the Empire from the beginning in your element (e.g., in a Paradox title) would be great.

you need to wreck the Germanic tribes as much as possible before 400ish AD, else you will get into a series of automaticly triggered wars with super boosted tribes that fights like the devil himself. :)

Were the particularits high when you started? Perhaps it was scripted in, there was a big civil war in 69 AD after Nero was killed. I dont know if the modders wanted to recreate every civil war or not

Convert to Chalcedonism. Hellenic is easy to convert and you get events for regions to convert to Chalcedonism.

I don't know in the game; it might be the sensible choice to do. However, Roma in real life did use mercs a bit too much and this was one of the factors that ruined the country, since it let the country defenses in the hands of a bunch of Örgen Börgen who didn't give a single fuck about the Roman values. About the mod: I'm wondering why they decided to unify the Roman and Greek religions as "Hellenic", IRL they were quite different even if there was a fair bit of syncretism.
@ThatGuy-ex1sf

+LuZamya it might be due to the fact that the romans made the greeks rename their gods into roman gods
@150booyadragon
@150booyadragon 9 жыл бұрын
+LuZamya Romans took on Hellenism fully after taking over Greece, to keep Greece under control.. They just forced Hellenism to rename their gods to the Roman ones, and that's where you get Roman Hellenism from.

I personally wouldn't really say that the mercenaries. It were a factor that the fall of the Roman Empire was due to the fact Italy's population couldn't sustain their army manpower due to drastic increases in land and Crassus army marching into oblivion thus pushing the Romans eventually to assimilating barbarians into legions as close or equivalent to Romans (ex Arminius) that ruined the tradition and safety of legions that protected Rome. During the roman rise barbarian mercs were nothing more than peasant hired as skirmishes for the main legion. It was until the after the initial downfall from series lost battles that you saw well established merc company's pop up due the lack of roman imperium, Christianity's lack of "fever of warfare", new found autonomy/separation, generals desire for gravitas in conquering, so forth that really started it. Mercs were nothing more then a enabled factor in the chaos of the collapse not a factor in the fall. Historians still argue on the initial collapse, mine is based on the earlier viewpoint. If you favor the later than you'd be correct.

Do NOT convert the Chalcedonian provinces. Let them spread. Convert sometime around 300-350 or so. Dedicate yourself to wiping all non-Hellenic, non-Chalcedonian religions out of your empire. If you muck up, consider splitting the Empire. It would seem to be far easier to remain Hellenic but the event that converts a province to Chalcedonian ramps up as time goes on and seems to favor Hellenic ones. Its worth it to win the struggle for Armenia and add them as a vassal; I don't know any other way to get the Subjugation CB that early in ET.

False. If anything, Christianity kept it together longer, and helped the East survive and prosper.
@iMajoraGaming
@iMajoraGaming 9 жыл бұрын
+starshooter7324 Actually you're wrong, banning all religions other than Christianity didn't do Rome any favours whatsoever, and neither did outlawing slavery which if I'm right they did because of Christianity. So your "false" is false.
@The_Byzantine_Ottoman
@The_Byzantine_Ottoman 9 жыл бұрын
iMajoraGaming There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that the outlawing of slavery and spread of Christianity caused the fall of the Roman Empire. The West fell due to demographic changes and bad luck on the military front. If Christianity really did cause its fall, then we would have seen this be a much bigger problem in the East, which flourished and survived for another 1000 years.
@iMajoraGaming
@iMajoraGaming 9 жыл бұрын
+starshooter7324 Isn't it a bit funny you twist what I said to fit your own argument? Did I say anything about the 'spread' of Christianity? No, I said banning it and later banning all religions except it did no favours, something which you oh so conveniently avoided entirely. You are completely wrong that Christianity helped the East survive and prosper although it is understandable that you could reach such a conclusion. And on the subject of slavery a country that had slavery for literally hundreds of years that was already a basket-case of issues doesn't just outlaw slavery thus liberating thousands of people, and economically flourish, the only thing Rome would have done then is enter economic decline until it learned to cope with the thousands of new freedmen which in all honesty only the East ever really did. The West fell because of the mass of barbarians encroaching and because it was ridiculously divided internally, it had absolutely no cultural synergy and was compromised of almost entirely conquered territory home to literally millions of people that didn't speak latin nor did they worship neither Roman gods nor Abrahamic ones. Where there bits of people that might've and did either speak the language or worship one of the faiths? Sure, but they were by no means the majority, you don't just ban thousands upon thousands of peoples faiths in favour of Christianity and not have an absolute shitstorm ensue. So there's Christianity's contribution to the fall of the West, now let us move on to the East. Oh boy where do I begin, okay, let's start with why the East wasn't an absolute mess, the East is where Christianity began and it firmly rooted itself there, and a significant amount of people spoke either extremely similar languages or the same one as the East was called the Greek Empire for a reason. The East did everything BUT flourish. It was a mess of civil wars, coups, rebellions, and god only knows how many military disasters, the most noteworthy being the fourth 'crusade'.The Fourth Crusade is not only a direct product of both the Christian Schism, but Christianity itself. Christianity, like it or not was almost entirely the reason the East fell. Was it significantly more prosperous than its Western counterpart? Sure. Did it survive? Yes albeit barely and I'd hardly consider merely 'surviving' a feat in any regard. The East spent the last 2 centuries of its existence heaving and trying not to absolutely disintegrate and barely managed that. The 'Bone in The Throat of Allah' was such both because it was Christian and because it was 'Roman'. The spread itself on the other hand was a cause of definitive unrest especially under Nero's heavily anti-christian policies, but it's improbable that the spread had any significant impact on the fall itself. The East 'prospered' and I use that term extremely loosely, not because it was Christian, but because the people of the East were culturally unified and because the majority of its populace was religiously united. In a vague sense I suppose you could say that Christianity helped religiously unify the East, but it hardly flourished and only barely managed to survive, although it did have several strong points under particularly good rulers. So your 'false 'comment was the one that was actually false. And Christianity certainly didn't do the East any favours in surviving and was either directly or indirectly a major contributor to its decline and fall. And there's plenty of evidence to back all of this up if you actually bother doing research.
