I just acquired a Eumig S 810 and encountered the same drive motor/rubber problem. I applied Rawn ReGrip rubber restorer with a cotton swab then wiped it off with a paper towel. Works spectacular. I also use it to restore the dried rubber idler wheels on my vintage record changers.

The claw must be retracted before removing or switching the plates. So I believe that the thumb wheel that spins on the back must be positioned in the 12 O' clock position. To prevent the claw pin from breaking. It's possible that the Dual gauge projectors only had one claw pin. And that was to accommodate the Regular Standard 8 (Normal 8) and the Super 8 (Single 8) 8mm film.

Check the claw on your Eumig. The claw is the little pegs that stick out of the film gate and engage the film sprockets. You may have missing claw pins which the film just rolls right through without being engaged. This is a common problem on the Eumig 800 series claw pins snapping off due to not retracting the claw when removing the film gate assembly. I found that the claw on my S810 is missing one of its pins, which is causing a shaky image. Both pins on the claw of the Eumig are necessary.

No that is not entirely true. A dual guage 800 projector for both regular 8 and super 8 use just one claw pin. They do break easily and are a pain to replace

Hi Carl, problem of motor apart, this projector provides the sound-image distance of 56 fps for the standard 8? Of course, 18 fps for Super 8. Thank you!

I used light sand paper to cure this problem. It did work very well. However, your solution seems less invasive on the rubber. The rubber cleaner won't remove as much rubber.

As far as the image jitter...I think adjusting the shutter assembly is worth a try. It's a pain...but it has worked for me in the past. Adjusting the shutter assembly will re-position the claw (either protrude more or retract more). This takes some trial and error. Loosen the grub screws that fasten the shutter assembly to the main drive shaft (sometimes getting the screws loosened is the hardest part.) Next ... "adjust...tighten...test...adjust...tighten...test...etc." It's not fun, but you should eventually get the picture stabilized. Also...check the claw frequently to remove any fuzz bunnies that can also cause film jitter.

Just use cellulosic thinner and synthetic thinner you may find 1 liter bottle for 2 usd
