Thank you so much for this - a fascinating and moving insight into what it takes to produce such a glorious performance.

Many thanks for this very very interesting video. It is good to focus also on the pronunciaton: it is very unfortunate if you have a good singer with a bad German pronunciation singing Wagner. Nobody expects perfect German in an Opera performance in the US. What I can hear in this video more or less all singers have strong non-German accents, which is not a problem if you can understand the words. We had world famous female singers even here in Bayreuth were you could not understand one word who came out of their mouth- this is not the real deal when listening to. rgds from Germany PS: I guess this was a very good production! Rene Kollo a famous Wagner singer in the past did not utter one voice - even to his family - for four days after after long Wagner performance because Wagner wears all out - the singers and the musicians.

Just saw her Tristan in San Francisco. Complete trainwreck, it feels like she hasn’t even attempted to listen to the great recordings of it. Virtually non-existent brass, and she played Wagner like a Hanon exercise.

I think I would go mad conducting in the pit and looking up at the dark ugly sets onstage. Given the direction opera productions are going I would rather conduct a symphony orchestra and do operas in concert.
