Euphorbia and cacti are some of our favorite spiky succulents. They're quite easy to confuse for one another, but it is possible to tell them apart! Cassidy and Annie discuss their similarities and the little details that differentiate them. Then play along in their Cactus vs. Euphorbia pop quiz and see how well you know your stuff!

I love how diverse succulents are. In my Zone 9b, it can be tough to take care of them sometimes, especially outdoors.. but it's so much fun taking on the challenge and watching how each one shows off their beauty. Thanks for sharing with us Mountain Crest Gardens and Cassidy. Love watching you both ❤🌵

This was so informative! I learned that my crown of thorns cutting my granny gave me ('mother' plant is over 40 years old) is actually a Euphorbia. Growing up we would clean off the dead leaves with my grandpa & talk about how pokey George was.

I follow Cassidy and love Mt Crest plants. Having the 2 of you in one video....MAGIC. I'm happy to say I tried to ID a few at the end and did pretty well but the pseudorhipsalis tripped me up but that's ok because it even got Cassidy. This was fun and educational. Funny story - my daughter bought me a cactus (I believe from a big box store) because it was blooming and she thought with my green thumb I'd make it bloom more...then I had to inform her that the "flowers" were glued on. She was shocked and sad to see that this is done. It was funny to see her reaction.

Oooh! Definitely did not know that poinsettia is a euphorbia. Very helpful knowing the spine vs. thorn distinction and also showy vs. simple flowers -- thanks! Nice to know that even experts struggle with ID-ing sometimes.

Super informative! But a common misconception is that there is a Cereus Peruvianus, because it got tagged commonly as a Peruvian apple cactus. There is no peruvianus sub species within the Cereus genus

Thanks for this video! I am a big Euphorbia fan!! The pachypodium is in the same family as Nerium oleander, plumeria , Adenium & periwinkles The Apocynaceae. And as you said about the sap, it is toxic. Nerium oleander is famous for its poisonous sap!! I have a nice Euphorbia collection here in the Ozarks. If you wish to see them go to Morris park in the Ozarks and see a few like my one of a kind hybrid" Enigma". Great pointers on telling the diff between cacus Euphorbias👍 thanks for sharing!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks,Peace ,Love,Plants✌💖🌵🌷🌴🌸🌲💐🌳🌺🌿🌻🍀🌹😀👍

@@annieschreck7938 you are quite welcome Annie!! I have had my collection going for 40 years now. The Enigma is an ever changing plant!! Started like it's Mother stellata, and then just kept changing!! It is a very rare hybrid. I've looked all over the internet to see if anyone else has this stellata x evansii hybrid , or has tried to cross these two. This is the only one in the world!!! I am currently starting cuttings x6. These will have to start growing, and then i will do the two step with them so I can get normal plants from them instead of just the cuttings getting longer and longer. I am very excited!! I have a few hybrid Euphorbia growing from seed right now. Stellata x groenewaldii, Ceriformis x horrida, horrida polygona, ceriformis polygona, and opuntoides x enormis. I love making new plants!!! Thanks for watching Annie!!! From Morris park in the Ozarks , have a great weekend ahead!!! Peace,Love,Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌷🌴🌸🌲💐🌳🌺🌿🌻🍀🌹😀👍

Dude my Tanzanian Zipper plant bleeds if you look at it wrong. Such a crybaby. So I learned that the sap will come right off with turpenoid or mineral spirits.
