I’m not even sure if I actually like Jules as a person. She is always so spontaneous, she never thinks about consequences of what she does. She knew that Rue obviously loved her romantically and gave her hope that she loves her back, but then she just sleeps with a girl she just met and tells Rue about it. By the way no one remembers that she just left her father who was always supportive and loving. I honestly can’t respect people who treat those who love them like that. What I do understand is that she has issues with her mental health on her own and that everyone telling her Rue is only sober because of her was wrong, but that still doesn’t excuse how she treats people

This show means so much to me. For starters, was the first accurate depiction of the heartbreak I’ve experienced as a seventeen year old queer girl who struggles with mental health. Like Rue, I was depressed for much of high school, but when I fell in love with my Jules, I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. Before her, I had only had really bland relationships with dudes before her but I fell for her so quickly and deeply that she became the main source of my happiness even after time and time again it was clear that she didn’t care about my goals and values as much as I cared about her. She wasn’t a bad person but there were elements of her personality that weren’t good for me and it took me months to see that. But there was a point where I realized that I couldn’t sacrifice any more of my future or endanger myself or my family for her (I almost didn’t attend my Yale interview to hang out with her - I’m now attending Yale) and I had to end it. She was different than anyone I’d ever met and it hurt me so badly to let her go, but I had to. It was hard in the beginning and still is hard. Sometimes I feel like there’s this part of me that she filled that still is empty, even months after everything ended. But now I’m moving to Yale and so excited for the future and want to take care of myself and the people around me. Slowly I’ve become happier for longer periods of time and realized I can be happy on my own without her or anyone else. I hope that Rue finds someone who respects her goals and values because her relationship with Jules, as beautiful as it was as times, wasn’t it.
