Believe it or not but Kirkcaldy used to be the main town in Fife. Long before Dunfermline received its City status. Just to reaffirm what I am saying, the postcodes for Fife all start with KY, for Kirkcaldy. Kirkcaldy High Street used to be bustling on a Saturday morning.

Kirkcaldy high street still is “bustling” just not anywhere near what it used to be because of the likes of The Postings and other big names pulling out. New Look, WHSmith, M&S etc - like every other high street across Scotland. It’s still classed as the main town in Fife. Dunfermline should have been city long before it officially was, it was the capital of Scotland and known as a city and royal burgh for many years. However, its city centre is only marginally better than Kirkcaldy’s.
