Perhaps one of the less well-known cities in England is Carlisle and very close to the border with South West Scotland. As such it often gets visitors from places like Dumfries, Annan, Moffat and Lockerbie and probably more so since the Odeon cinema in Dumfries closed more than 5 and a half years ago. But the people of Carlisle are generally very welcoming to the Scottish visitors. The region of Cumbria as a whole is not a lot different from Dumfries and Galloway in that it's a largely rural region with the one or two big towns and a scattering of reasonably sized wee market towns, but the people in general are GOOD and some of the scenery well worth a drive through.

Help! I've been stuck in Workington now for over 2 years after travelling all the way up from London on Eurasia Transport. There's only so much time you can stay in a bus garage - Please get me home back south! LOL 🙃

I've only ever changed trains in Carlisle, but it looks nice! And of course Cumbria never disappoints.
