It was, it was guyed-out and staked. It was set up exactly as prescribed by the instructions.

I have a couple of comments and observations: Do you think the outcome would have been different if you were in the tent? Heat from the body (Causing snow to sluff off) and ability to knock off static load of snow? I have an Alpinelite XT, similar to your other tent, much better at deflecting snow load. Snow is about 5 lbs cuft. Is a dome tent in a low wind situation a good tent to have? If the area of the tent was just 10 sqft, that would mean 5*(.75)*10=40lbs!

Usually when it snows 9 inches you don't see the grass

I KNOW! I was MORE than surprised that this tent sustained any damage at all, considering the tiny amount of snow we got this winter. I still haven't taken down the Spitfire. I want it to die, but it won't. It's sitting outside in, basically, a sustained 35mph wind as I type this, and we've been having hard gusts all week. The winds are hitting it broadside, no less. The Spitfire has been set up for about 6 months straight at this point, Noooo problem.

Interesting video. Thanks for sharing. Its weird cause you see pictures everywhere of these things sitting on Everest's South Col in a lot better shape than this.

Could you get a refund or replacement for free? Eureka advertises it as 4 season, but clearly something was off with yours

+jrmunro111 They fixed my bent-up poles using pieces of other poles. I updated about it. I'm altogether fairly unimpressed with how Eureka handled the situation. I'm a lifetime buyer of theirs, too.

I wouldn't say that. Notice the little Spitfire did very well. I still have it and it's been 3 years since I uploaded this video, and the Spitfire has been used relentlessly since then, and it's still perfect. Absolutely love that little tent.

Did you ever find out what was the problem, why it collapsed? I came across your video while trying to decide if i want to buy this tent.

No I didn't. I know that this tent (the K2-XT) has been in production for like 25 years and has been staged in extreme environments with excellent success for the entire time. All I can imagine is that this particular set of poles were made from a batch of aluminum that just happened to be out of spec. That's the only explanation that makes any sense. That type of thing happens. My main gripe was always with how badly Eureka decided to handle it. To recap how that went: They intended to charge me for fixing the poles, which were a mish-mash of my poles and new sections from other poles that are a different color, from a different tent. I couldn't believe any of it and raised a stink. I've worked in customer relations for decades, and this is now how you handle shit like this. You apologize, and then you fucking fix it, and then you apologize again and extend an offer for future help if any other problems arise. I did get a call from their corporate CS department who waived the fees, but I still have poles that are kind of beat up (they were perfect; I take care of my property). What they should have said as this: "Sir, please know that we're sorry about your experience. We are returning your poles to you repaired with segments from other poles that are of a similar color. We do not have an exact replacement set of poles for your K2-XT at this time, but please accept these repaired poles for your use until we put poles for the K2-XT back into their next production run, at which time we will send you a new set for your tent. Thank you for your loyalty, and again, we apologize for this inconvenience." Someone at Eureka failed CS as CS college, though.

+GunsNBudder cool thanks for the quick replies man. If it goes on sale again think I'm going to pick it up.

+Midnightsun Pro-tip: if you keep an eye on their outlet store on their website, oftentimes you can get "factory seconds" (read: buyer's remorse products that were returned and inspected) at deep discounts. I've gotten a lot of great deals there over the years, including the Spitfire 1 in the video. I think I paid $44 for that.
