What are the differences in the Eureka Mignon line? In this video, we talk about the differences and similarities between all these grinders, including silent treatment, display, timers, burr size, motor power, baffles, and more! Which one did you choose, and why?

Thank you for this extensive review about the Eureka Mignon models. I bought the Moccamaster KM5 grinder. It seems to have the motor and specs of the Mignon Filtro. Probably not the silent version, but okay. It fits my Moccamaster KBG coffee machine. Maybe you can review this grinder too?

I got the Mignon Filtro which is supposed to only be for filter coffee, but works really really well for espresso as well with the same stepless adjustment and 50mm burrs. There is a lot of evidence that the Chrono and the Filtro are both more than capable of handling espresso grinding and at a price of $240 and $200 respectively. Highly recommend. Note: I think the Filtro and Manuale are the same grinder for different markets, but I could be wrong.

Very nice, Joseph! I might get a Filtro to try as a second grinder then. Or rather a Filtro silent, because that silent technology is great. I can go without a timer for a big money savings. Cheers!

@@TomsCoffeeCorner Tom, did you ever get a chance to try out the filtro? And if so, its performance with espresso? There is only one video, that I can find on youtube, where someone uses the filter specific brews for espresso and it's all talk and no demonstration. However, there are more than a few threads on reddit where people talk about using this and the crono for espresso both with the filtro burrs and the espresso burrs. It seems to me that this grinder is slept on if it works well for espresso at its price point. Regardless of whether you have to change out the burrs for $33 or not.

I started with the Filtro for the past two years and I really like it, but I still wouldn't recommend it. The reason for that is I use it for a Moccamaster for the most part, and to get the grind just about how I need it I am practically having to turn the adjustment knob until it's loose on top, which means if I wanted to go coarser for French press or something, it wouldn't do that. Same thing with the Crono, I suspect, since it's essentially the same grinder with a rudimentary timer added. With the Brew Pro that I just upgraded to, that grinds the coffee a bit fluffier, and I strongly recommend making a batch at various grind settings because they can be quite different. If it's too harsh, grind it coarser and keep adjusting. At one setting the same coffee I've brewed for years suddenly really has a chocolate kind of character. The Filtro has been excellent for my needs, which are mostly the Moccamaster and pour over for the last two years, but it should also be able to do French press, and it simply can't go that coarse, at least on my particular grinder.
@TomsCoffeeCorner

Thanks for postnig your experience! I can confirm that since the adjustment wheel is screwed onto the adjustment post, unscrewing it too far will eventually loosen the knob itself. Glad you're liking the new Brew Pro. Cheers!

Question . . . What is the best single dosing burr grinder that allows a person to use a portafilter with a funnel? I liked the Libra, but there seems to be issues with getting error messages using a portafilter and it is not the best for single dosing. My daughter and I like different "low acid" coffee beans.

Hi there, thank you so much Tom for this mostly useful review!!! One characteristic you don't mention about all these models, is wether the fork that support the portafilter is adjustable or not. I just read a catalog from Eureka. According to this catalog, the following models have a so called adjustable Hands-free fork: - Specialita - Turbo - Design - Zero - Zero Brew And the following models do not have an adjustable Hands-free fork: - Silenzio - Perfetto - Manuale - Classico - Bravo Finally, these models don't seem to have any fork at all: - Filtro - Crono - Filtro Silent - Brew Pro I don't know about Oro or Stark models. Since I'm about to get a Dedica Arte coffee machine, it's best for me to have an adjustable fork, is it? What would you say? Anyway, thanks again for all these details and differences!

Hi Tom, I have the Manuala which I bought about 3 months ago and I love it! I wasn’t bothered about displays or timers, I would say the adjust is “very critical” between different Beans, even 1 or 2 mm can make a heck of a difference in the final result, I have a homemade single dose bellows made from a silicone collapsible drinks cup which works fine giving me hardly any retention, so I would thoroughly recommend it as a solid well made grinder without all the bells and whistles..👍🏻 Andrew

I believe I've watched every available KZbin review and several blogger posts and reddit threads and nobody complains about being able to dial it in. It is however commented that it's just such a tiny tiny movement. I very much like the idea of being able to spin a dial a couple times and know exactly where to go back to, but as I understand it, dialing it back in is a little less handy when you go to the extremes (French press back to espresso for example) because you have less margin of error (if you remember the number of turns you made and the number you need to be near) but I don't think that's any more difficult than trying to remember how many times I've turned the dial on a specialita to get back to the precise espresso setting 🤷‍♂️
