What a wonderful tutorial! This is the first time I have really been able to understand brick stitch by being able to really see it with your great close ups and slow pace. Thank you so much!

I Really Like how you show things in close up, Leah! I have been beading for years. I have friends who are beginners but want to do more than stringing necklaces and bracelets. So, I have been looking for easy to understand videos for them to use when I am not there to help them. I will be adding this one to my list! And I'm going to look for more beading techniques from you to share with them!! Thanks!

Very fun design! I have a brick stitch question. Could you do this pattern using round or fire polish beads, or does it work better with delicas that sit flush next to each other? Thank you in advance! 💜

I followed this video to make my very first earring. I like the design and clear instructions However, there is a key step missing. After my first one, I thought there must be a better way to make the edge beads lay straight. In mine and the one in the video, the edges are very wacky. So I watched many other videos and my second earring was so much neater and better looking! The missing step: after you put on the first two beads and go up through the second, you then go down the first and back up the second. Then carry on like in this video.

I have the same question as Ms. Nedine Noir, as to the color pattern you're using. In the second row, you have only 1 gold and the rest is lining up great. How do you know when to add or take away a color??
@EurekaCrystalBeads
@EurekaCrystalBeads 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl! As you build each row, it will stagger a bit, you will use one less bead in each row, always removing the bead from the middle. If you're new to working on designs like this it helps to use graph paper to draw out your design before you start so you know when to add or take away a color. Hope that helps!

Quite right, as ECB has answered! You can google "free peyote graph paper" and graph out some colored pencils and experiment with designs!

What do you do with the ends of the thread when you’re done weaving? You cut them short I presume but how do u hide it if it’s sticking out?
@EurekaCrystalBeads
@EurekaCrystalBeads 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question, after you do your knots and weave in your tail, you should cut the thread as close to your beadwork as possible. It helps to press your project down and pull the thread up to get your snips as close as possible so you don't have thread sticking out. It helps to use a product like this: www.eurekacrystalbeads.com/beadsmith-extra-fine-thread-snip/

I always wonder if brick stitch creates a more firm piece of beadwork compared to using peyote stitch..Any thoughts on this?

Susan Bertrand Tension is everything, but yes - I do agree - brick stitch in my opinion is a touch stiffer when tension is apples to apples.

I have made this shape several times, but, when finished the earrings don’t lay flat, they curve. What can I be doing wrong? I use Nymo thread. Would it help keep them flat if I use fireline?
@leahwyckoff4791
@leahwyckoff4791 3 жыл бұрын
Nymo has some stretch to it, so it's likely creating a tension problem :-) Give FireLine a try and you likely won't have the same issue.

How do you start the thread? no matter how many tutorials I go through it never shows how to start off, I always end up pulling the needle half way down the thread and beading it through and then I'm left with two strings.
@EurekaCrystalBeads
@EurekaCrystalBeads 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Danyka, thanks for your comment. You only need a small piece of Fireline on one side of your needle, just enough that your needle will stay on the line. The needle shouldn't be in the center of your line. Hope that helps! ✨

Hi Dandy! Thanks for your question. I had the same issue when I first started. Getting the tension just right was tricky but it solved my problem with the stitch. Maybe Leah can weigh in also. Best, Nishka

What is the width of the fire line ?
@EurekaCrystalBeads
@EurekaCrystalBeads 3 жыл бұрын
Fireline is organized by "poundage" the higher the pound, the thicker the line. Here we used 6 LB fireline.

You didn't explain how you laid the colours?
@EurekaCrystalBeads
@EurekaCrystalBeads 4 жыл бұрын
Hi K thanks for watching! At the beginning of the video Leah mentions getting some graph paper to draw out your design. Just color in the boxes with the colors you like and then you can follow your own design! We will probably do a little follow up on how to use graph paper to create designs soon. 💕
