i like how whilst talking about the euro96 game between england & spain how not 1 person mentioned that spain had a salinas goal incorrectly ruled out for offside that would have sent england out of the tournament at that early stage

As an England fan, I came into this Euros optimistic… and rightly so… we had the Prem and La Liga POTY and Europe’s top scorer. But after the sh1t sandwiches Gareth served us in the group stages, my perception of the team changed and I couldn’t see this team progressing beyond the quarters. I’d already come to peace at being knocked out during the 85th minute of the Slovakia game. But then the Jude moment happened… and every single minute since then has been a bonus. The resilience they've shown in the knockout matches has made me believe again. So come Sunday, win or lose, this England side has exceeded my expectations. If Spain win, fair play… they have been the best team in the tournament and fully deserve it. But if England win it, they would fully deserve it too for being the ONLY team able to stop Spain… Croatia couldn’t, Italy couldn’t, Germany couldn’t and France couldn’t. Either way, come Sunday, I am just happy that I can support my country in another major final… which is a lot more than what many of these England haters can do!!!!

Spain have been the best team and it would be great to see them go all the way. England have their style but perhaps Spain will give them more space compared to say, Italy in 2021.

England have the benefit of having been there. 16 or 17 is a very young age to be shouldering all that pressure in an Euro final. Then again they do have those experienced heads, the likes of Rodri and Carvajal who have won just about everything in football. Only Navas of the 2012 euro winning side tho. The old heads may need to step up for goalscoring also, for Spain to come up victorious.

Youd have to fancy Spain but if England play to the level they can they can beat anybody. If they dont play well for 90% of the tournament it doesnt matter, if they play well in the final.

England has grown through the tournament, no doubt, but they still aren't a fluent, possession based team like Spain are. Still relying on individual moments of brilliance to get through. Who knows what will happen on Sunday. If the Three Lions win then that's great, but it's 70:30 favouring Spain for me.

I always read about it coming home. Seems like Brazil could be mentioned there. Madrid wins every champions league, the Dutch invent total football, Barca/Spain invented tiki taka. England are not its home just the inventor. Just look at the way you got here.

Such a nonesense comment. Most of the top sides have amazing squads on paper. England have had an unreal squad on paper many times over the past few decades and have pretty much always completely flopped in tournaments. Weve never gone deep in back to back tournaments. Not sure where this expectation of going deep in international tournaments has even come from, considering how shit we've been historically. Stop being so neggy and give some credit where it's due
@josefernandez77803 ай бұрын
Stop deluding yourselves guys.. England lost the last Euros Final at Wembley which was the perfect occasion for them to win at home; they lost against Iceland again at home right before the opening of these Euros; they've barely scraped through the Group Stage and should have been eliminated at various moments of the Knock Outs, only Lady Fortune knows how the hell that happened but luck is a factor at times in these tournaments; all of that wears the players down mentally with lingering doubts of inferiority and undeserved merit.. and it creeps up in a big tournament Final.. and against this Spain, with this momentum, with their all-out, high-end pressure approach and extremely disciplined midfield and defense (notwithstanding their relevant absences) that we saw against France (with De La Fuente having learnt his lesson not to substitute the wingers with 30' to go like he did against Germany which got them back in the game... remind everyone it was this childish tactical error that prompted the Germans to bounce back, not the inability of the Spanish players), it can only be once in a blue moon that this England team beat Spain.. even if England score first (which I doubt), this Spanish side is relentless and merciless, they keep pushing you, testing with shots in and outside the box, with the wingers in unstoppable form while Kane and Bellingham have been dreadful.. England will be lucky not to get crushed with a 4-1 score or similar.. with Spain leading 2-0 by half time already. Spain is going to come out on fire from min. 1, it's De La Fuente's style and it ain't changing fo this Final.

Trouble with tournament narratives is that observer's start to see the narative rather than the game. Spain were good in the first half against France. In the second they were poor. They did not control the second half at all. France battered them on both flanks getting behind them on numerous occasions. France had at least five copper bottomed chances and if Dembele had a final ball, France would probably have gone on to win it. Plenty for England to exploit.

That's true but three of their starters were suspended in the France game, this is why they struggled but those players will be there in the final

It’s not coming home simply because this home narrative is a false myth. England had a handful of rich people who got together and founded the first football association (for the elite, as it happens in this country), but football has a much older history and roots far away from England. But hey, it’s how it works: fish&chips is not British either, and the national dish is chicken tikka masala, even the royal family comes from a different country… 🤷🏻♂️
@DarthQueefious3 ай бұрын
1st half vs Netherlands we were good for the first time in a long time, when our best player (Foden) finally got some sustained touches of the ball. Outside of that, we've simply been lucky and that includes recent previous tournaments. We should be really good all the time given the squad we have - a squad only France competes with - but we don't have a coach. If we win the Euros it will be despite Southgate.
@DavidGreen-ot2ni3 ай бұрын
Probably the most stupid and incorrect post ever. Southgate went in to this tournament NOT having his 11 available. i bet you had Grealish,Rashford and Henderson in the squad. Southgate has done what no leader of this country has done for decades.kept calm and kept the faith,done things for other rather than himself. Fine we didn't play well early games. But we're in the final where a team like PORTUGAL with more experience and as talented a squad left with nothing. Only one team wins championships leaving alot of team with nothing.that's a fact.back off
