Gazza and LeTissier are the two English players I can think of that had that South American type flair to their game, not the traditional English one. The best goal of the best football tournament of the best summer of my life. The goals, the girls, the gigs, the mid-90s atmosphere of mad-for-it optimism... I remember when England beat Spain , I popped my head out the sunroof as we waited at the lights on London Road in Oxford and went 'waheeey!' to the White Horse pub crowd who had spilled out into the sunshine to celebrate. Even my mum (who's not normally a football fan) was high on the atmosphere and joined in, peeping the horn. The whole pub crowd erupted with joy. Epic times.

Was a magical summer, I was 9, oasis don't look back in anger was in the charts, euro 96, playing football in the park every night until 10 o clock. I'd love to go back to that time.

It was a disgrace that Gascoigne wasn’t picked for the 98 World Cup squad.

Paul Gascoigne is my favourite English footballer of all time. Linekar, Moore, Charlton, Owen, Beckham, Rooney, Kane are all tremendous, but none of them are in his class.

@@mikelitorous5570 i think you're right with Gazza & Charlton. I'm not sure where you'd put Scholes vs Rooney, but they're both amazing.

gazza was playing for rangers at this time. He was filmed taking the piss out of his team mates before the tournament repeatedly saying, " Jocks. piss on them. summer". how right he was!!! legend!

I was there at that match in fact I was there the whole tournament but couldn't get a ticket for the Germany game but I'll never forget the Scotland game because it was the loudest match I have ever been to in my life and wen Gaza scored that goal I actually thought the roof was gonna come off lol absolutely the best England goal I've ever seen in my life!!

Gazza is only 51 now and could be running marathons and enjoying an incredibly fulfilled life, yet he looks like an old age pentioner on deaths door. It's very sad to see.

He has issues that go beyond booze and drugs - i think over use of those sorts of things are a symptom of an otherwise defective mind - the poor guy. Lots of people have done drugs and over drank at various times of their life without it effecting them too badly.

he's back playing football, but addiction I mean he had trauma, which was'nt his fault, kid he looked after ran in road, and stuff, trauma causes addiction, many footballers are maybe excercise addicts, like ronaldo's dad drank self to death, maradona, addict, george best, tyson fury, dunno. but yeah he's back playing soccer. which is inspiring. some people can drink one, or bet once in bookies, some it blocks emotions, and makes feel normal. dunno

He's destroyed himself with the drink which is very sad but especially when he played because he was really quite good.

Everybody talks about Gascoignes world class finish and it was world class but the way he got himself in position beforehand was the skill of Gascoigne.
