I tried to do exactly as you did but subdivision breaks the middle part of the cylinder, creating this "flower" like pattern mixing the gold and silver. When I check the wireframe it has broken the inner rim and creates some sort of unevenly heptagonal faces from it. This is the third time I started from a scratch and yet I get the same result when subdividing. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
@MagevoStudio2 жыл бұрын
You need another support edge there, meaning that you have to make an inset on the face/s where you have the problem
@eliteextremophile88952 жыл бұрын
@@MagevoStudio ah, thanks. I think I missed the point when you made an inset.

@@MagevoStudio This is absolutely great tutorial/rehearsal for the controls. This is basically my first time doing any 3D modelling and even when this is quite fast, it gives great challenge and introduces well to Blender. Can't stand the very beginner tutorials, how am I gonna memorize every basic control just by going through them lol. I need to do something that has challenge. Great job and thank you for this tutorial!

Hi, I just checked the link by downloading the image and it worked fine for me. Not sure what your problem might be. Maybe trying with another browser will help. I tested it with Chrome and Firefox and it worked. Thanks

Would it be possible to add more faces of the initial cylinder later on without starting from scratch?
@MagevoStudio3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is, you can select all vertices, then right click and subdivide, you will see that you have more vertices now but the structure is the same. So what you have to do first is to get rid of the horizontal new edges which were created when subdividing. Select the edge loops and press Ctrl+X to delete them. Then, with the Loop tools add-on installed (Go to Edit>Preferences>Add-Ons and search for Loop tools and check/activate it). When done select all the upper vertices of the cyilinder (in Wireframe mode to catch them all), right click>Loop tools>Circle this will create a perfect circle/cylinder shape again. Do the same for the bottom vertices to make them circle as well. Hope this helps, good luck!

How would you export the coin model to a game engine and keeping its properties? I removed the lights and surface objects and exported the Blender file to Unity along with the 2 images, but the color of the coin then just becomes plain yellow and grey, and the texture is gone.

Hello, I'm a beginner and thanks for this tutoriel which help me a lot. I have a little problem with the texture outside edge of the coin. I had mark seem but because of the mirroir, the texture is also mirrored at the intersection. Have you an idea why? Thanks.
@MagevoStudio3 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean. The mirror should just be on the outside of the coin, meaning splitting the coin in the middle. I don't understand where you have the mirror, if you explain that in more detail maybe I can help you.
@christopherobert1033 жыл бұрын
@@MagevoStudio Hey, first of all thanks a lot for your reply :)! Sorry if I had a bad explanation, I'm french! Each face is well mirrored, so no problem (either the gold and the silver). But on the axis the texture (you named goldout2) is mirrored from the mesh part and the miroir part which render different light from this 2 part. It's at 11:13 from your video. I don't know how I can send you a picture to show you the effect or send you my blender file. May you have a personnal link to do this? Hope it's more clearly for you now! I've jsut seen forward your video that it's very close of what you have at 18:13 but before putting the "wave" effect. Thanks for your work!

Ok, I had a look to your work. Try to select all those faces back of the seam, Ctrl+Alt clicking with face selection, then press U and Cube projection. Now it should align correctly. If for some reason this does not work either you can apply the Mirror modifier make sure that auto merge is activated, then come back into edit mode, select all the faces you need to align at once and U for Unwrap and select the Unwrap which works best. Good luck Christophe!
