Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door and the robustness of the centre airbag is evaluated
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

Would be nice if the videos gave some information about where it lost points, especially in the pedestrian section, since it seems to have done well there

I'm not entirely sure but it might be to do with how close or far it stops from the car/pedestrian
@antimatter4733
@antimatter4733 2 жыл бұрын
@@sparrowsarecute11 wouldn't be a good way to rate them since some brands may intentionally stop slightly later if they know they'll be able to stop before hitting, so they have more time to give a warning signal before applying emergency brakes

A question: I noticed, that center airbag is coming from driver seat bottom and hit up. When car have center armrest, then very likely driver leans its arm there. Do that airbag hits then underarm and cause damage? More reasonable would be install airbag to passenger seat as front passenger usually do not lean on middle armrest.

Both passenger and driver have tendency to lean their arms, well atleast EURONCAP should put whole hands on the side test dummies instead of just their arms

Very interesting question, i think it would be less dangerous to make the airbags deploys from behind, like the whole side of the seat, and not from the bottom.
@hakunamatata324
@hakunamatata324 2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the center airbag is between the driver and the armrest. A driver would only be resting the arm there in a highway during long trips and the chance of being hit like that on a highway where you are likely to have a frontal or rear crash, is basically null. In the city tho it is different and that can happen but you are likely to keep both hands on the wheel for obvios reasons specially if where you live is full of d*ckheads on the road. That design makes totally sense since the passenger is the one likely to be using the armrest all the time.

Although positioning driver's arm on armrest and the center airbag may hit driver's arm, center air bag was designed for the 2nd impact prevention for driver's head and passenger next to.

My thought exactly, but it could have with those head and leg tests to do, as the car is very, very rigid and the organs seem to take full damage. I looked at NCAP test of regular Ioniq before this one - it's more soft on the edges and therefore the impact force gets distributed differently, from what can be seen it seems the force distribution is key here as it results in, or rather, doesn't result in fractures, based on how it gets distributed. Cheers

With these self-steering, self driving systems coming closer, and having looked at how current systems switch off completely, if the driver doesnt keep their hands on the wheel, surely it would be a safer application, if instead of simply switching off the self-steer, the system continued to steer the car as best it could, but slows it to a halt and puts on the hazard lights and keeps brake lights permanently lit, until the human, or rescuers, take control again. Just a thought.

It's strange that they suddenly don't do small overall crash test. Are ncap going backwards? I wouldn't buy a new vehicle without knowing small overlap crash test results.

check IIHS. They are much better at testing than euro ncap. Yes some cars are not evaluated on IIHS if its not being sold in the US, but at least their evaluations are much better and unbiased.

Actually most of manufacturers used to be designed for getting good result using 50th male standard model. And smaller dummies they use lower score they get. Using small female dummies mean manufacturer is set to pass the vulnerable occupant tests.
@jonathanwei2477
@jonathanwei2477 2 жыл бұрын
@@kimyeonwoo5 I would've thought a larger dummy would experience higher forces (due to larger mass being decelerated) and moment (due to larger body) so it would be a worse case than a smaller dummy...
