In the side impact, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door at 50 km/h. In the pole test, the car tested is propelled sideways at 29km/h into a rigid pole.

@@Jameshoward999 Yes, they have. All Meganes from 1999 onwards have driver and passenger airbag as standard.

@@legioner9 the reason why the one for frontal impact didn’t have pass airbag was because if you look closely on front view they tested a pre-facelift Megane (the one that came out from 95 to 99). The pole impact was a facelift (99-04 UK) meaning it had side airbags too. If that was a pre facelift it wouldn’t have side airbags either.

Its a preety nice car. I own one right now (post face-lift one from 1999) and i think its one of the best starter cars i could've ever get. It has good enough engine (1.9l diesel with 100hp), so it accelerates quite well and it has good top speed It handles well It has some extra features like parking sensors and roof window Only problems i have with it is the lack of climatisation, old radio without CDs nor bluetooth and the fact that my trunk cannot be oppened from outside because the lock is broken. Otherwise its a very nice car

Yes, this car outperformed most of its competitors back then, thouht it's not that good when compared to modern cars. The new Megàne made the best score of all cars ever last year.

In 1999, it's better than other cars. It's same with Volvo S70, Mercedes Benz E Class(W210), BMW 5 Series (E39). Very nice result for Renault in the end of 90's.

@@mihaillevarda9395 In the early 1990s, Renault started caring about safety, and many of their cars from then on were very safe for their times, including this Mégane. By the 2000s Renault was a safety leader. It’s ironic, because in the 1980s Renault was one of the worst performing car manufacturers in crash testing at that time. In the NHTSA tests, Renaults did consistently poorly; the 1982 Fuego was the second worst performing vehicle in NHTSA history. So they went from death traps by 1980s standards to quite safe by 1990s standards. It’s always great to see a car manufacturer commit to improvement like that and turn things around like Renault did. We used to Megane Classic between 2006 and 2017. The most equipped model. It was comfortable and durable car. We had made a crash with BMW E30. Megane was punched the E30. Now we are using Renault Fluence. But Megane was best car which we used.

@Areoplane7 you`re very wrong.. renault has great cars, like many other car companies.. you`re comparing this with a volvo.. but you must compare cars with similar prices like volvo.. volvo are expensive cars.. with this amount of money, you could get a renault laguna, a chevolet malibu, vw passat, ford mondeo, etc. a lot of cars comparable to volvo with the same ratio price-safety.. the megane, for its money, is a very safe car..

Buy one, they are safe enough, I own one, safe, but the back end steps out (oversteers), in poorer conditions and sometimes completely randomly in the dry, on cheap tyres. Buy good tyres and the car handles well. Buy cheap and you might go backwards through a hedge.

sorry, if i knew where to llok i'd already have the links for you.. i saw laguna 100kmh test- as in best ncap car 100kmh test in an autoblic- car magazine and volvo in a crash_test tv show few years back. just compare laguna 2007 and s60 2001. laguna has better marks, but she uses more of the crumple zones than s60. check them out. ncap renault laguna 2007, volvo s60 crash I. II. III. i dont see any point in it? or you mentioning it now? wtf? old vs new? obious.

Hi Mario, yes they end up sharing the same airbag for torso and head but the very first version of side airbag on Clio 2 only offered torso protection (before the mk1 facelift around 2000).

@fuzter2007 ncap hasnt got different crash measures for cheaper or more expensive cars. they are the same and renault is cheating. that's the reason i posted my comment. there is a video crashing a new laguna into a ncap wall at 100kmh, passanger cell was destroyed. there is also a video crashing a volvo in a wall at 100kmh and it scored a bit worse than at 64 kmh offset. safety cant be measured in price. a car is either safe or not.

@Drag0nXxX renault is a bullshit car company, thank god, they came to their senses after they were caught.. renault gets better score in a ncap coz renault MADE IT that way, so it can score best there. volvo is the safest car there is. volvo dont care about ncap etc, they made their own crash test facility where they crash their cars in all possible ways. nothing beats volvo in terms of safety. crash a volvo and a renault in a wall at 100 kmh+, renault driver will die. volvo's will live.
