Her performances are so much better if you have the context of having watched the concert from the very beginning. MDNA was such a great show. The stage was incredible. And imo this song was robbed. It should have been a much bigger hit (and the lead single to the MDNA album). If you do a whole show (which I so hope you'll do) you should start with Blond Ambition. Arguably her best tour to date. The one that set standards.

This spectacular opening image of Madonna in this 2012 MDNA tour is one of my favorites from her iconic career. She conceived the theme for this concert tour as “the journey of a soul from darkness to light..” and she delivered as usual by layering the numbers with stunning/opposing imagery and messaging i.e. the eternal struggle between good and evil. In Catholic theology and history, the Madonna (old Italian ‘ma’ for my, and ‘donna’ for lady) refers to the iconography (art paintings, statues) depicting the Virgin Mary since the 2nd century, usually with the Child Jesus, that’s venerated by Catholics as a religious icon of piety, virtue, meekness and obedience to her faith. In this opening piece, Madonna decided to come out with the powerful, subversive imagery of a Black Madonna, toting an AK-47, clad in tight leather outfit, with a flowing, long black veil, wearing a queenly gold crown, shattering the glass enclosure of the confessional box with the butt of her AK, a militant, liberating crusader, angry, fearless, determined to confront her “enemies” here-the bat winged, demonic gargoyles gathered outside the cathedral while she was reciting the Act of Contrition inside the confessional box. But then, she succumbed to their temptation and proceeded with Girl Gone Wild…just a brilliant and awesome contrast.

I was at this performance and I was mesmerized from start to finish! I couldn’t believe how quickly the time passed. When the concert was done, I turned to my friend and said “that’s it, wtf?!”. Little did I realize almost 2 hours had passed!!! Haha! As Madonna always has said, “It’s a journey” and it definitely is a trip! When you get an opportunity to see her live … GO!!! My mum is almost 70 and her request of me before her ‘next journey’, she asked me “I want to go to a Madonna concert with you the next time she’s in town”. My heart melted. x

When you dance for Madonna, Janet and Michael Jackson (RIP) you danced for them. Not sure about how Michael was on his tours, but with Madonna and Janet, they worked their asses off getting the choreography right. They would work out 2 to 3 hours a day, rehearse their choreography for 8 to 10 hours and then did their show almost every single night. And that's what made their shows worth watching. The dancers never tried to show up the artist, they all worked well together.
