They're probably always like that, but I would have the same expression for this piece, just not for the same reason; hyper focused and in awe.

Violinists and overall and orchestra tends to have a straight face whenever playing, they do it so that way they can focus on the notes and especially the long articulations, 8ths and 16th notes. I know that because I’ve been a violinist for over eight years.

At 0:42 we see and hear the drummer using only his one hand to produce the rapid fire pattern .Amazing

Why does the tempo slow after about the 4th bar (about 16 seconds)? Did they really do this or is it a processing/production artifact?

I believe this was done deliberately. It may have been by the maestro's/conductor's choosing or the orchestra following his orchestration. Could be that he wanted the opening to ritardando, producing a more majestic form.

I feel the tempo in this finale a little too fast, so the ending stopped too rush without essence remained.
