Isaac Stern was born in 1920 (died in 2001), while Gil Shaham was born in 1971. The recording is from 1997. A nice meeting between generations

For real? His intonation if off with a lot of microtones. Also, the double stops in the 3rd movement are beyond pathetic. This is the worst performance of Bach's double violin concerto I've ever heard!

I have read a biography of Isaac Stern's life. My father was a pharmacist in Haarlem ( the Netherlands ), but he had also played a Violin Concerto of J.S. Bach with orchestra ( in E-Major ). That is why I love listening to J.S. Bach. From my father I have learnt to appreciate the Music of J.S. Bach the instant I heard the Violin Concertos on a long-play record when I was 13.

4:35 A clear demonstration from Mr. Stern of the tricks he's learned over time. Notice he folds the corners of the pages so he can turn the them easier mid-piece. When you have so much experience you learn these little things, and I'd also be willing to bet he learned this trick hard way!

The 1958 performance of Menuhin and Oistrakh u mention is indeed G-dly. I've heard many performances of this concerto. Most are inconsequential. Some are technically perfect but are rushed and lack soul. This Stern Shacham performance shows the technical challenges of aging Stern was facing, but musically it is still lovely. Phrasing, tempo, dynamics and balance between the performers were all lovely. It has soul.

Audiences including Yale doctor who I knew. We sat on the ba loony. I really enjoyed his violin. Later, I saw Ma Yo Yo too. In Chinese, yellow cow means a person went to ticket window to but a ticket resell to you. One time I went to a movie in Taiwan. I did the same thing. I gots into big trouble for the person intended to sit on my chair thought I was stealing. Good thing was that I happened to wear my uniform which represented the best girls, high school in island. So the person let me go. Try not do what I did. Tickets will be more expensive!
