On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

This was very informative for me on how the maneuver works to defeat the missile. Seeing the missile trying to maintain a lock then not being able to turn hard enough to stay on the aircraft. Very informative. Never seen it from the missiles view before against a target.

Eh, not really if you know what you're doing Those things have a turning radius the size of texas due to their "speed", so a manouverable fighter can easily dodge them given the skills

I was confused by that too, felt like it should've wrapped up quicker. Maybe the range was a little excessive and it wasn't until the Eurofighter pushed inward more that the Meteor drained him and then finally scrapped him

That is the most maneuverable MIG 31 in Russian inventory.

speed is life in bvr and that applies to defense as well. the mig-31's lack of maneuverability definitely has a serious negative impact on its capability to defend but it was still extremely far and extremely fast and that's not a combo that missiles particularly like

Probably not, those missiles are more maneuverable and can thus make tighter turns.

Many, many moons ago when LOMAC was the sim of choice, this technique (albeit at lower levels) was one of the favourites to defeat SAMs. It took a few goes to understand the timing, but it was beautiful to watch missiles flying by, unable to keep track of you. I have used a back and forth weave to the same effect as the rolls you were using the weaving one seemed to work well for me and allowed me to maintain pretty good speed I also was changing altitude a bit just enough to keep my airspeed when going up. But it worked and allowed me to maintain lock. I will have to try the rolling maneuver and see which one I like best. I liked the weave one was able to maintain higher altitude and speed while bleeding incoming missiles energy off. I look forward to trying this new one

Proof that speed and even stealth (or vision) isn't everything, you also need the maneuverability to hit the target if you know where it is.

Actually this "Large diameter roll" method will technically work against any type of missile when it is not within its "volume zone" in terms of turn. Normal missile will burn at most 10sec or so, it makes this "non volume zone" really tight so hard to utilize in conventional DCS. But against missile like R-37, when its threat purely comes from topspeed, this method is a go to. Not sure against AIM-120D/260 or PL-15 though, including Meteor itself.

The technique should be more effective against any missile than a 2D back-and-forth crank with the same angle. Whether that's sufficient depends on the parameters of the engagement.

hello man, I use to do that kind of thing back in the day but I don't have the time anymore these days have a lot of life stuff going on and the channel takes up a lot more time than usual. The discord community in the video descriptions does have a lot of valuable people in it who might be willing to help someone new to the sim though that's where I recommend starting. I think the MIG31 was only shot down due to pilot error, the MIG31's forte is combat at high altitudes where its speed makes it very difficult to hunt.

This is a far more interesting defense strategy compared to the typical "turn tail" strategy. This allows you to remain offensive and not give up altitude, much more menacing to the enemy aircraft. That said, you should test this against AMRAAMs, something tells me it might not be this effective against smaller/nimbler missiles.

In one of the videos, the Typhoon easily and without misses shot down 4 fighters with meteors. 2 SU-57 and 2 SU-30. Why can't he shoot down the MIG-31 with the first shot?

the Mig-31 is the one aircraft that might actually have a higher standoff capability than the eurofighter. So the reason the eurofighter struggles is because it is outranged.
