In the past five years, the north of Cyprus has undergone a property boom. But while it has brought money for some, it has also meant headaches for others. This week in Reporter, we look at how both foreign and local property owners are demanding their rights be respected on both sides of the divided island.

do these people buying in the occupied areas of cyprus, understand is legally owned by people that lived in that area for 5000 years and only 36 years ago were illegally ethnically cleansed....

my friend, if you say that it means you haven't visited the free part of cyprus. eg: 99% of our beaches have the EU's blue flag, the best performance in the whole of Europe. So please, don't speak your mind without knowing. besides, buying property in the north is illegal no matter how you view it. it's as simple as that. and i don't think anyone in the world, with the obvious exception of turkey, will disagree

Why don't you print the truth? This man's home was taken by force by the Turkish Army 1974 while he slept.

What happened could have been in both way if Greeks manage to occupy the whole island. What happened was tragedy but Greek fanatics to be blamed and yet many Turks have lost their houses as well. What a waste ...

And what about all the Turkish speaking Cypriots forced to abandon their homes in 1963 then in 1967 and finally in 1974 because of the Greek speaking Cypriots wanting to Join up with Greece they started a civil war?

Very good for the Turkish speaking Cypriots after the constant rejection of any solution to the Cyprus issue from the Greek Speaking Cypriots

this isn't 1350...you can't invade another person's property and take it over.

Exactly. Greek Cypriots learned that the hard way. They massacred Turks and tried to take their property. Guess what happened.

Serves him right. Anyone in there right would not try to purchase property in an area that is not recognised. Also, 80% of property in the 'north' belongs to the Greek Cypriots who were forcibly removed by the Turkish army following Turkey's invasion of Cyprus in 1974. It's not a conflict, it's a problem of invasion and illegal occupation. The Greek Cypriots do not care about compensation, they want to return to there homes and property. They want to return to their town - Famagusta. It's their human right. UN Security Council Resolution 550 stipulates that Famagusta should be handed to the control of the UN, who would then return the town to it's lawful inhabitants. Turkey has ignored these resolutions and is in violation of international laws, creating more tension in the Eastern Mediteranean. Your 'lawyer' in that interview as far as I'm concerned, is a bent lawyer. Would you offer someone compensation after deliberately stealing something from them. This 'compensation' is being offered by an illegal regime backed by Turkey- the invader of the Republic of Cyprus.

There are tons of properties in the South of Cyprus which once were owned by Turkish Cypriots. How come those claims are not being addressed ? Could it be that there are one set of rules for one group of people and a different set for another group of people ?

The Turkish Cypriots are as entitled to develop their economy and tourism as anyone else in the world. The Greek Cypriots who persecuted the Turkish Cypriots horribly should NOT get to dictate what the Turkish Cypriots get to do on THEIR side of the island. Myself, I am delighted the Turkish Cypriots are finally developing their side of the island and earning their place on the tourist map.

Nobody should have to leave their homes out of fear but the Greek Cypriots should have thought of that before they clumsily attempted to exterminate their Turkish minority.

And Greeks for 3000 years, the Achean Greeks arrived there and built there civilisation and culture, which has been preserved in tact to this day. Turkey's aim in the northern area of the Republic of Cyprus, is to eliminate any trace of Greek culture and history

I have zero sympathy..the greek side is solely to blame for the cyprus issue..which started in the 1960s NOT in 74 as they would have you believe. Read the history
