Exploring Stamps

Let's learn about EUROPA stamps! Starting in 1957 and still being issued today, they have some fun topics to collect. I also take the opportunity to impress you with my top spinning skills.
Correction:
5:04 Europa 1989 stamps from Portugal, the boat and the kite are actually from Azores and Madeira islands, that are part of Portugal but they have their own stamps

Just catching up on season 3. It's great to see how the videos have grown in quality and content since the first season (even thought those were great in their own right). I am encouraged by your partnership with APS and really hope that your engaging approach to the hobby causes people who may have never considered stamp collecting to take a look. Thanks for all your efforts. I really enjoy the humor, information and production values displayed in each episode.

Excellent Vid! Have a 1956 Europa Souvenir Card. Ah, the games of youth: several versions of marbles were popular along with Mumblety-peg and, of course, Duncan Yo Yo’s. “Jacks” (although considered a “girl’s game) was great at developing eye-hand coordination-recall spinning the small Jacks to see how long they would last… Pump-tops were an early-age toy (4-5). “Pickup Sticks” was fun as well. But the main “game” was Baseball-starting at age five! Chess at age six and a variety of card games were equally enjoyed!

I have a few Europa stamps. When I was young, was very good with spinning tops and the battles were fierce. We even sharp the tip in order to do more damage in the adversaries spinning top tops. I am originally from Brazil, so my spinning top was just like the one in the Portuguese stamp. Cheers.

Great info about Europa and the stamps. Tossed a lot of tops in my kid days. But was a lot easier when I was just a hair taller than 4 feet. Less downward angle. When you got that first one spinning I was waiting for the camera to turn to a 12 year old kid with a sly smile on his face as he 'learnt ya'. LOL. Always great stuff!!

You are spot on with info about spinning tops. I lived in Chile for a short time in 1983-4. Spinning tops were popular then. I eventually, after lots of practice, was able to get a top to spin. It’s harder than it looks. Kites were also a popular child’s toy. Hey, that would make a great topic for a future video.

When you show other Europa 1989 stamps from Portugal, the ones with the boat and the kite are actually from Azores and Madeira islands, that are part of Portugal but they have their own stamps (likewise the Channel Islands you mentions). Take a look at Lighthouse binders and Lighthouse Varios pages. You can find them from stamp suppliers, on E-bay or through Amazon. The clear version is what Graham uses in his most recent videos. This allows flexibility in organizing and displaying your stamps. If you might want a more traditional album, try Stamp Albums Web. A small yearly fee allows you to print all the country pages you want on 81/2 x 11 paper. They fit in the Lighthouse binders I mentioned above or in regular binders you can find in office supply stores.
