Cannons in the beginning were too heavy to be used on land in any efficient way. The tubes where too heavy, and reloading took so long, with zero chance of any real targeting. Siege of Constantinople by ottomans 1453, was the first time ever where cannons were efficiently used in a battlefield offensively ... it took a week to assemble and they were able to shoot 2-4 times a day, and one third of them exploded while being used... (I base it on amazing book by Mika Waltari) early cannons on ships because of a low fire rate were mostly used as attrition to abordage... impressive on a very close rage but useless further away... also it could basically fire once during the combat
@Sextus70
@Sextus70 4 жыл бұрын
@@civas666 Very good and insightful explanation. I was baffled at first when I saw those "cannons" in the early game because I thought they were an accidental and crazy anachronism. Then I did my research and found out that naval artillery actually began to be used in Europe in the mid 14th century, and during the 15th most of the major Mediterranean nations gained access to them, so the game is historically accurate about that.

How about choosing larger trade nodes that has upward flow to your own home node, transfer to your node . And collect from your node . Eg : if you have 3 merchants as Byzantium . Put one on alexandria one in Aleppo and collect from Constantinople. If you have more put one in Crimea and so on . Increase the money flow to your own pot and collect from it .

So, the conclusion, where do you send your merchants in early Castille? From what you said, I know sending merchants to steer trade power from Tunis is a must. But what about the other one? Do you send them to collect from Castille or to steer trade power from Safi? If Safi has another outflow node to another node that doesn't outflow to Seville, would you send them instead?

Ok, so... I unpaused the game and got the notifications of both Royal Marriages being accepted. However, unlike what Quill experienced, I got two immediate requests for alliance; one from Portugal (which I'm guessing I should 100% say "HELL YEAH" to) and one from Navarra (which, ehhh?? I have no idea whether to say yes or no on this one). I was lucky enough to have gotten 6 Barques instead of 5 and 4 Heavies instead of 3. As a result, I disbanded only 3 of my 4 heavies because I want to have 1 in case of an emergency. I still happened to have 6 more ships I could build, so of course all 6 of those are going to be Barques. Obviously, this means I got a force limit of 23 instead of 22, which I'm pleased about. Just got some bad news; *Morocco decided to ally Granada.* I'm really hoping this happens to Quill, too, just so I can see what to do here. I'm guessing Morocco poses a decent threat since they are literally a couple miles across the water from me. However, I guess I shall see what to do!

I thought I got a hang of the game when I conquered Granada but then war exhaustion and protests ruined me. The basic tutorial for EU4 teaches you how to create units and fight wars but you rarely do that in the start which is why their tutorial baffles me.

i think ottomans are really good especially their ruler has like 5/6/6 or something like that they are really powerfull.

disagree. a very powerful country to get into, but too much diplomacies, provinces, and wars to manage. Best beginner countries are the smaller ones that have no immediate threat of getting taken over.

In this situation, it's better to move the merchant from Tunis to collect in Seville. It adds 10% to the money collected, and since you collect like 7.4 gold there, 10% would add .74 gold, instead of the measly .26g it's transferring from Tunis(of which you'only get a% based on your trade power % there, so like half).
@orko4185
@orko4185 8 жыл бұрын
+Esty6 You forgot the +10% trade power increase from merchant transferring trade. Its a toss up of +10% income or +10% more trade power in the node. You can forget about the trade steered from tunis since your power will always transfer out of tunis if your merchant are present there or not. And most merchants are already steering towards sevile. Only thing the merchant does in tunis is give a bonus to outflow. But since there are already several merchants transfering out of that bonus is very very low. All merchants he has are doing very little in their nodes for him. Since most merchants in those nodes are already steering towards his home node. The big thing they do is give a 10% bonus to trade power in his home node. If they would collect somewhere and not steer, he would loose those bonus to trade power. So it is a calculation of if it is better to collect somewhere, or have 10% more trade power in the home node. And in the starting situation it is bette to have more power.

+Orko Still not enough, I made my calculations and it's really better to collect in Seville. I just checked myself. With the merchant steering from Tunis: 3.46g. With the merchant collecting in Seville: 3.6g.

Esty6 So it becomes a decision of if i want to earn some more gold or do i want to deny others some more gold. (me more tradepower = others smaller piece of the pie)

But if you sent your merchant from Safi to Genoa, then you'd still get the bonus for steering trade, wouldn't you?

Feel like you're doing this at the wrong time. With the new DLC and patch coming out that overhauls trade and ships (which is a big part of the game) and along the corruptions system, this would only cover a small portion.

Why would you not get a 10% bonus from Genoa? As far as I could understand, you get the bonus for having a diplomat transferring trade to your home node, so if you just moved him from Safi to Genoa, would it not just move where you're getting the bonus from?

+Mr.TurtleyDude No because the if the merchant was in Genoa they would be collecting trade not transferring. The 10% bonus in the home node is from each merchant that is transferring.

+Mr.TurtleyDude Because you can't transfer trade out of Genoa. End nodes like Genoa don't allow it, you can tell that because there's no arrows moving out of it.
