To be fair, with most games like this you keep the game paused at the beginning for a while just so you can set up and plan. Then you play it at a fairly high speed while you wait until you accrue enough resources to do stuff.

As a beginner, I would love a really thorough explanation of overextension and especially aggressive expansion
@hakairyu18 жыл бұрын
+Jonah Turner When you take land, countries that know you do exist will get an opinion malus called agressive expansion (AE) against you. How much they get depends on what they have in common with the country that lost land. Same religion and same culture means more AE, there are a bunch more modifiers such as whether you have a claim to the land, under what CB did you take that land et cetera. However, the most important factor is development of the province distance: the closer they are the more upset they get, and the richer the land the more they get upset. As an example: if I am France and decided to conquer a bunch of Italian Catholic provinces bordering me (so Savoy and Milan after I get through Savoy), the ones who get the most AE will be the ones closest to them and who are Italian and Catholic. Venice will care the most, Naples and Austria slightly less because one is farther away and one is German, not Italian. Also; when you conquer land in the Holy Roman Empire, you will get double (iirc) the AE even if you yourself are a member of the HRE. By contrast, if I'm Muscovy annexing Russian land, people won't care because there are like 3 independent nations that are Russian or Orthodox in the vicinity. Oh, and your allies get much less AE against you than they otherwise would. If a country has at least -50 as AE against you, and has a negative opinion of you (or are a rival with -100 or less opinion of you); they may coalition you. They won't always do it, but they probably will if there are too many of them. So pissing off one or two countries is ok even if they are big countries, pissing of entire regions is not. If the coalition is strong enough they will attack you, otherwise the rule is that if you attack all of them you fight all of them and can't peace out each one separately. So you both have to expend more effort, and can't take nearly as much land from a coalition (you could take up to 100% warscore's worth of land per country if you could peace them out separately except you wouldn't because you'd get AE; this gets you a 15 year truce with all coalition members). In order to avoid coalitions; on the peace-deal screen there is a number to the lower left, and when you hover over it (there are like 4 numbers, hover over each one and you'll get it) it shows you how much AE you will get with a number of countries (after some distance countries seem to not care at all) and then list the countries that would meet the criteria to join a coalition against you. It will say for example, Denmark (number, number). One of those numbers is how much AE they will have against you as opinion modifier, and the other is what their relations to you will be. If you could just improve relations with most of them and avoid getting their opinion down to the negatives, you could just do that and not get coalitioned. AE will reduce if you lose some land in a coalition war, and coalitions will disperse after the coalition war, but the most reliable way to reduce AE is time. Countries will lose 2 AE per month (AE had an upper bound of -1000 last I looked, could have gone down to -200 for all I know), Prestige and a lot of other stuff gets you Better Relations over Time which means you lose AE faster. For example there is the Better Relations over Time advisor, the diplomat, who gives +30%; so you burn AE 30% faster at 2.6 per turn. Prestige also gives you BRoT, and there should be ideas and such too.

Quill, will you make a more advanced tutorial for people who knows the game but doesn't know what to do in some cases?
@danjal87nl8 жыл бұрын
While I'm sure he'll go into more in-depth stuff as he moves ahead in the game. Like he said in the first episode, a lot of those aspects you pick up from watching LPs. One of the great advantages of watching Quill, Northernlion, Mathas and Arumba play together is that you get to 'experience' 4 nations at once. And if a certain event or thing happens for one of them you can always switch to their point of view to see what it is and how they deal with it. The problem that comes with EU IV is that its not really easy to do proper tutorials on every single specific case since there are so many variables. And depending on the state of the world aswell as your own plans you'll end up taking different actions in the same situation. Meaning that often there is no easy answer as to what the 'right thing to do' would be.
