The reason you lost your ships is because they did not have a chance to repair after previous fights, meaning they were very weak, kind of like an army with little to no morale

If you thought Austria pulling out was bad, imagine fighting against Ming in the 1700s as GB with Scandinavia, Prussia, Portugal, and the Commonwealth by your side... and then having ALL of them peace out halfway through, resulting in me losing the war (which was okay, because I only declared on them because they were allied to Burgundy, who I peaced out earlier)

It wouldn't matter because he has no diplo rep right now, and until the modifier goes away he'll probably be able to click the button

if you have negative diplo rep the annexation pauses until you have positive again. had one of my diplomats annexing at 36% for like 10 years before i figured out what was happening, which sucks cause its either lose a diplomat for who knows how long or lose progress on integration.

You could have started annexation of France before turning to Anglican. Now you have to wait for years for that. But it's okay, bigger chance for inheriting them(yes I know it's still very low, but can happen).

You should give the burghers any province with a Trade power modifier (Center of trade, estuaries etc)

Interesting thing, the galley bonus isn't what killed your fleet, that tile might not have even been an inland sea, the main thing is that in the early game three galleys (equal in hull size to one heavy) have more cannons than any other contemporary ship formation, putting out far more damage and shredding fleets until the mid 1600s. I had to look this up because the same thing happened to me when I fought the Danes.
