I think one final oversight that should be addressed are dynasties, the fact that they’re both an incredibly important mechanic in the game and in history while also being incredibly basic is insane. Like beyond their name there is zero difference between dynasties and there’s no real way of interacting with them dispose them being your royal family. They should’ve added more interactions with dynasties, through a new menu and such.

The base game has loads of content. I would strongly recommend against buying the DLC, if you really want the DLC just use the subscription service. EU5 will be out well before the subscription becomes more expensive than buying the DLC.

Sad no other cultures except for Inca were develop. Coastal Peru had many powerful kingdoms like the Chimor. Also the Peruvian coast is not depicted in the game, only mountains and jungle... The coast si about 120000 km2 in size (similar in size to England) and where most of the modern Peruvian population lives, a "wet desert" with many rivers giving it life, and civilizations 6000 years old like Caral.

Cause you're paying for the Dev's time; in the same way that you have to pay a mechanic every time you go in to get your car fixed/improved, you need to pay game developers every time they fix/improve your game, since, y'know, they have to pay rent, food, and bills whether they're working on a new country or an old one.

@@jellyrolls2765 of course devs need to be paid. But we also expect a finished product when we buy it. In this situation, the devs are not "fixing" their game. They are artificially extending its lifetime with small updates that are meant to complete each other, although in contradictory ways, and locked behind a paywall. If I keep your car mecanic analogy, consider this: you are never buying 3/4 of a tire, even if it somehow works well enough for you. You expect the reseller to give you a full tire, which you pay for. You don't want to get the missing 1/4 tire later, for the full price. Several DLCs spent on the same nation, updating it in various incomplete ways, feel exactly like this. And this is a dubious practice which I want to see disappear. Also, see how the same issue is handled by the Custodian team in Stellaris. This is how it should work. And the best part: these Custodian devs also get paid for their time. So yes, in my view, the business model for EU4 is deeply flawed and earns Paradox my utmost distrust.

I've already pre-purchased this DLC, but am I the only one that thinks the DLC's just make it easier for players to conquer the world as any nation? If an EUV ever gets made, maybe calling it Project Caesar as a placeholder, I hope that the mission trees would be reworked so that for every bonus given, a malus is applied to an integrated component of the game. Rarely in life does everything come up roses, and rather than making things easier for the players, maybe giving us new challenges would be worthwhile? Probably just a pipedream.

that's pretty much any DLC since they started to focus the DLCs on specific reasons. Only mission trees that make said region broken overpowered in the hands of the player. The game gets easier with every DLC.

@@firefox3249 I'll accept that ever since the Government reforms and mission trees systems were added new DLCs (and Immersion packs) have had a lot of Power Creep, that's not a completely bad thing though in my eyes as this also contributed a lot to flavour and replayability which is massively important in a game that's more than a decade old. But mission trees aren't exactly a "new phenomenon" - the patch that introduced it was 1.25 (released March 2018). And when you think about it it's just going back to the game's roots as the very first DLC (released alongside game launch) "Purple Phoenix" were sets of events and missions that made Byzantium much easier than if you hadn't bought it.

@DylanSargesson Purple Phoenix didn't affect the balance anywhere near as much as modern focus trees. It was only a couple of events that gave or took monarch points and some cosmetic stuff. Yes, modern mission trees and government reforms give a lot of flavour but they also drastically shift the balance of power in the area towards a few select nations. For example: Gone are the days when tiny nations like Riga offered an interesting challenge for experienced players. You'd have to carefully maneuver your alliances and possibly stock up on some money for mercs simply in order to expand into your much larger neighbours. Now you complete a couple of piss-easy missions and are suddenly a force to be reckoned with from day 1! The devs are also not doing anything to address late game snowballing. Most of my campaigns are effectively over by 1600 as I'm already a force to be reckoned with, at least in the local area, with minimal effort. Just press a few buttons, steal a bit of land and I'm swimming in money, dev and monarch points. Got a bad ruler/heir in charge? No worries! Press button to fix for no real cost, other than some arbitrary restrictions.

Depending on your location you can just buy the game and use the dlc subscription that is 8€/month. That doesn't only give you all DLCs but also all cosmetic packs. Buying DLCs for EU4 at this point is utterly pointless, especially if you wanna get into the game. 510 divided by 8 = ~63 You'd have to basically pay the subscripion for 5 years straight to get to the same price. Just buy EU4, subscribe to the DLCs and unsubscribe when EU5 comes out. That game isn't 5 years away.

@@Slopmachine2i dont know anyone who just plays eu4 for years except youtubers and streamers. i play every dlc for a month or two and then i get a long break from it for a while. so getting a subscription makes sense. i get subscription when i want to play. and cancel when i dont. lot easier to give 8 euros and play for a month. than pay 300 euros and have the game sit majority of the time in library. and who knows, maybe when eu5 gets released i wont be able to have fun in eu4 anymore. like ck3 ruined ck2 for me. ck2 is still a better game with all dlc's and stuff. but UI and everything and is just so old
