Europe's center-right claims EU election victory even as far-right surges | DW News

The center-right European People's Party (EPP) is set to remain the biggest grouping in the European Parliament after voters went to the polls across Europe.
Ursula von der Leyen, the lead candidate for the EPP, as well as the European Commission President, said that the party had won the elections.
"No majority can be formed without the EPP and together ... we will build a bastion against the extremes from the left and from the right," she declared.
Von der Leyen is seeking a second five-year term as president of the European Commission, the powerful EU executive arm.
Preliminary election results also showed that far-right, nationalist parties had made the biggest gains in the polls.

Disappointing Von Der Leyer isn’t replaced by a actually right of centre leader. Whilst her party may be centre-right, I’d say she’s centrist to centre-left. It’s comforting knowing all the left of centre parties lost seats and all the right of centre, especially the conservative parties gained seats. Though conservative or ‘far right’ these days simply means patriotic, common sense and against islamism. Knowing the dangers and destruction it’s causing to Europe, anyone should be against islamism. Le Pennes party got more than double the votes of Macrons party…the party of the government/president. What does that say about Macron? Especially given he’s literally dissolved his government and called a snap election this month as a result of it. If the state spends money on productive but not initially profitable ventures, it will grow the economy or keep the social state in line with both inflation and population growth. It also refers to monetary austerity as well. If a state can't devalue its currency, its economy will be less flexible, and fiscal austerity will seem like the only option, even if it increases the GDP to debt ratio. The E.U in order to fix this issue will either need to increase its power or decrease it. Here is a more simple argument: the UK exists as a nation. And atleast I'm useful 😎

The way I see it, the far-right underperformed in these elections. Yes, France is a clear exception. FPÖ in Austria too. But PiS and Fidesz both lost seats. Vox and Chega did not do as well as some polls had shown. Neither did the Sweden Democrats. Meloni's FdI in Italy just took votes from their feellow Lega coalition partner. Even Wilders PVV performed a bit below expectations. ODS in Czech Republic and New Flemish Alliance in Belgium are said to be considering leaving the ECR. Etc.

Far right is a misnomer. MONARCHY is "far right." The WEF is truly "far right," inasmuch as it seeks to be a monarchy, along with the UN and its affiliates. "Far left" is also a misnomer, as if right-wing means a strong central government that rules with a heavy hand over the people, then "far left" would mean a weak central government with an emphasis on local decision making.
