I used to live in York. Tourism is such a mixed blessing. On one hand, it's nice to live in a place with so many attractions, so many great pubs as resturants. But then you get coked up race goers making the city an absolute hellscape. People come in and just wreck shit up. It costs money to carry out all the repairs and cleaning needed to tidy up after people throw up in the street and break bins and lamposts. Also, doing day to day stuff in a place like that can be a pain. Being late to work because you're stuck behind big crowds of slow moving tourists. Property prices, and general cost of living is just sky high too. Tourism is good and a lot of tourists are sound. But I think people need to realise the downsides and respect that.

On the other hand, nothing from this video is due to any nationality in particular, just that instead of bringing benefits, over tourism has made life of locals more expensive and sometimes losing their own identity in exchange for money that goes to other people's pockets. The cruises are just a bad deal for any city or town destination, you just get thousands of people all at once who are all running around trying to see and do as much as they can in 6-8 hours. They have food and accommodation on the ship so all they are going to buy is a few sandwiches, drinks and tourist tat. The only ones really benefiting from it are the docking services and cruise lines themselves, not the town that has to deal with the thousands of people running around without actually benefiting the locals much at all.

The average house price now exceeds €3/4M, and rents €1,000 a week, and yet tourists still expect their rooms cleaned, laundry done, food cooked and served, bus and taxi-drivers, plus police on the steets, and those streets swept and gardens kept, all by people earning under €20k. @@janwillemdewaard354 try some Spanish destinations. Between broken furniture, collapse of ambulances (because they drink so much that decide to throw themselves over windows) and hospitals and general dirtyness of the streets because they puke or pee inside apartment halls or streets, the general noise making imposible to sleep or live there... Normal tourism isn't the problem. Drunkers are and young British don't know how to drink and behave in public.

@@vanesag.9863 yeah so pretty much what we in Holland also experience. Problem with us is how cheap and easily they can take boats to us.
