European Deer Skull Mount Broadhead Plaque

How to make a broadhead/arrowhead plaque for a boiled and bleached European skull mount. It is made from oak wood and stained dark to contrast the white bone and match the antlers or horns.

You probably could, but I wanted to have a visible line from the wood joint where the broadhead would screw into the arrow. Also, just made it easier for me to make.

Do you put any mounting hardware on the back to attach to the wall?

I did. I used picture frame hangers from a hardware store on this one. In the past, I have also just drilled a small hole at and angle upward, just enough to fit a small nail head or screw head for hanging on the wall. Both work pretty well.

What’s the best way to mount the actual skull to the plaque?

Normally I mix some JB weld or Bondo up and glob it into the base of the brain cavity. Once it sets up, I flatten it on a disk or belt sander to whatever angle you want it to sit on the plaque. Then drill a pilot hole all the way through the plaque into the JB weld or Bondo. Open up the hole in the plaque to let a screw spin freely, countersink the back of the plaque, and put one screw through the plaque into the skull.

Sorry I tried creating a paper template through some free drafting programs but couldn't get anything to work. If you message me through my website, I can send you a top down photo of it that you can mess with the sizing and print until it comes out the correct size. Then use that as a template.
