Maria, I have a question for you. You mention that "ei" is pronounce similar to the English word "eye." Other teachings I have heard and seen indicate that "ei" is pronounced "ay" like in the English word "weigh." Is "ei" pronounced both ways? "

If we pronounced it as the word "eye" it would be wrong and misleading to the listener because it's a long sound a. This combination makes a short, closed sound /ɐj/. I am referring to the Lisbon accent which is a lot more closed "darker/tougher". In some other parts of Portugal, it's common to open the sounds so that combinations sounds more like /ei/. In a nutshell, both are correct, just please stick to one accent and be consistent with it, do not mix them. It would be good to understand how people speak where you live and then, imitate that accent.

Thank you for the comment. I understand why you would prefer the subtitles, but trust me, the point of this exercise is not to gain the vocabulary. The meaning is completely irrelevant, just focus on the sounds, connections, sound changes and the the sentence rhythm.

Maria, na frase "Isto não faz sentido nenhum" estás a pronunciar "sentido" de uma forma estranha, o e é um pouco mais aberto. Exactamente como o primeiro E de "sente". A maneira como pronuncias quase parece "sntido". Claro que isto é uma picuinhice, principalmente quando percebi que não és nativa :) Bom trabalho.

I'm sorry to hear that... By the way, the point of the pronunciation videos is not understand, but to focus only and solely on sounds. Just focus on what you see on the screen, and try to understand what letters make what sounds and how they change in connection with the following words.
