Hello from Islamabad Mike. Those mountains are the foothills of Himalayas and are full of water streams, hiking treks and wild life including leopards. Islamabad is one of the best planned city, even studied in urban planning courses globally. It has grid systems Sectors A,..E, F, G...going away from hills and 1,2 3 paralleled to hills. Every sector has market business area in the middle called Markaz while other main business and education institutes in dedicated sectors and for buildings Blue Area line in center of city going parallel to hills but it has restrictions on high rise buildings so the view of mountains is not blocked thats why buildings were not that high. Best part is every sector has mandatory green areas, public parks, public library, public gyms, sporting grounds. It also has its own lake and dam and big multiple parks including 4 sqkm sector is made into Park only, that is why its known as one of the most beautiful city in the world definitely greenest.
