Watching the video is good. Being there is great. Nothing scares the hell out of you more than a sneak pass. F/A-18: Empty weight: 23,000 lb (10,433 kg) / landing speed: 155 mph/250 kph / Separation: .5 m (18 inches). Imagine if your after work commute involved taking an 11,000 kg (24,000 lbs)aircraft, traveling at 250 kph (155 mph) and put it on a spot the size of a football pitch, that is moving in all three directions at the same time. The runway is angled to your direction of travel, so you have to slide sideways. Now, it's 2:00 am, people have been trying to kill you at work, and your home is in a storm at sea. Air shows in the US are fairly common. The Blue Angels for the Navy and the Thunderbirds for the Air Force. During the shows, they do this thing where some of the planes will be performing tricks directly in front of the crowd and when you’re not expecting it, another plane will come screaming up from behind you, flying very low, just overhead. The weird thing is, you see the plane fly right over you but it’s totally silent for a second or two and then all of the sudden the sound catches up to the speed and it’s the most thunderous ROAR you’ve ever heard, right over your head! It always manages to scare everyone to death ✈

We had an ATV to get that far up the rocky area above the desert floor. The planes would fly by the top of where we were viewing & we could see them fly at our eye level of 2000 feet. They would give us a "wing wave" as they flew bye. Awesome skills needed to fly those planes. The smoke trails are only used for show. Officially, (meaning I actually bought a ticket and attended the show), I've seen them twice. Unofficially..........dozens of times. I live in Houston, and for a while I worked near Ellington Field, where they do their Houston show from. I've seen them (and the Thunderbirds in fact) countless times flying directly over my workplace after having completed a maneuver for the show and setting up for the next one. They truly are Angels to behold when they fly over a subdivision at 150 ft in a diamond-4 or delta-6 formation (delta is the 6 man triangle). My favorite moment at every Angels show is when they scare the crap out of the crowd with Angel 6. They keep your attention focused on the front 4 doing diamond passes, and number 5 demonstrates a couple solo maneuvers while they set up their next pass. Then, after a few minutes of this back and forth, out of nowhere, BOOOOOOOM!!!!! Angel 6 sneaks up, slams the throttle and goes supersonic right above the crowd from behind!!!!!! The sonic boom always makes all the chicks in the crowd squeal, lmao. You can hear that boom from quite a ways away, too, (my workplace was about 4 miles from the airfield as the crow flies) though you'd probably think it were something else if you didn't know the Angels were on the wing. It's also the fastest you'll get to see one of them moving, as the rest of the show is all subsonic and military jets in general are restricted from using afterburners over most civilian areas, so they don't go supersonic when you see them in your day-to-day either. Glad you got to see them finally! Cheers!

The Blue Angels are America's naval show team. The pilots are picked by the team every year. The rotation is every two years. After the show session a new pilot is chosen to join. After the session is over, the new team starts practicing. They don't start out flying so close. That comes after they've gotten used to the maneuvers. Once they have them down they move closer. When the next session starts, they are comfortable to fly 36 inches wing tip to wing tip from each other. Plain 1, the boss keeps his eyes forward and calls a cadence to the team throughout the show. That's how the other pilots know what to do , and because they fly so close that why the others look at the plain next to them. And yes, in the cadence, boss tells the team when to turn the smoke on and off. Every flight demonstration team has strict practice guidelines they go through to be the best they can be. Your British team is the same way. They are awesome to see. If you ever get a chance to see any team you should go.

Imagine watching these amazing pilots blasting by, very low above the water, down the river. Their precision is ASTONISHING! Your appreciation of the skill of humans who are simply the best at what they do warms my heart. The smoke is so that people on the ground can tell what the pilots are doing/ just did. The United States Air Force also has a precision team of pilots called the Thunderbirds. If you get a chance to attend EITHER team in person, DO IT! The Air Force and Navy demonstration teams are far beyond average pilots. Thanks for this Andre!

they some of the best pilots in the world and they are even better to watch in person. if you get the chance i recommend seeing them in person. it is an experience you will never forget. the things they can do in a plane is unbelievable.

I have not only seen the Navy Blue Angels, but I have seen the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Army Golden Knights (parachute team). They are all wonderful examples of the best of the best in their respective services.

I caught all 3 at an airshow as a kid, The golden knights stole the show that year.

Check out the Air Force’s Thunderbirds too, they are amazing. Seen them several times when I was a civilian employee at a couple of AF bases

I’ve seen the blue Angels perform multiple times. My uncle was (always will be) a naval fighter pilot. He also flew the F-18 that the Blue Angels fly. They are the best pilots in the world.

I've seen the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds several times at the Chicago Air and Water show growing up. It's always incredible to see, and you never appreciate how fast and in sync they're moving until they scream past you from above. And this is only a demonstration. I can't imagine how good they are on an actual mission.

Best day of my life was taking my dad, (veteran of Navy, WWII on an aircraft carrier, used to ship out of San Francisco)...to Fleet Week in San Feancisco. Watched the ships come in under the Golden Gate Bridge, all hands on deck standing around the ship. Suddenly, the Blue Angels blew through inches over the bridge. Dad had tears running down his cheeks. ❤

I have seen them many times as my father was a career Navy man. First time I saw them they were still flying the old F4 Phantoms, then they switched to the smaller and more maneuverable A4 Skyhawks and now they still fly the F18 Hornets. Last time I saw them perform was at the huge Aerospace America Airshow in Oklahoma City. The time before that was at NAS Memphis in Millington, Tennessee from the air traffic control tower. Amazing to see them perform the low-level stunts at eye level or from above. Where we lived in Millington our house was in alignment with the runway and they would fly over our house to setup their next stunt. They would come by low and slow and wave to us kids on the roofs of our houses. Any branch of the military, ours and other countries, all have amazing demonstration teams who represent the best their service and training have to offer.

I've seen the Blue Angels several times in my life. The precision and teamwork involved is outstanding. Coming within 18 inches of each others wings and cockpits. Shows the standard we have for our nations fighter pilots.

Seen’em live many times since I was a little kid, through many generations of the beautiful birds they’ve flown. Even got low-level “buzzed” by them on a hike with some friends in the remote areas of the Imperial Desert in California one day. We were resting on top of a barren hill in the vast valley, and noticed a black spot low in the air, near the horizon to our north, which grew larger, focused into a thin black line, and then became identifiable as five or six jets, so close to each other they seemed to be attached, and then … FFFFOOOSHHHH!!! … a blur of blue and yellow zoomed right over us, finally pointing straight up in the sky, and blooming like a giant lily of smoke, and we knew exactly who it was. We stood there on that remote hill, with the magnificent Blue Angels all to ourselves, for the next half-hour or so, as they ran through their rehearsal moves where no one but us could see. Absolute heaven. 🟦🟨🟦 (And yes, they do fly that close - that was not a side-effect of the camera lenses! There is simply no better flight team on Earth.)

I have seen the Blue Angels many times throughout my life , from around five to today I'm now 70 , my mom loved the angles , and yes they are the best, and they get this close , I think they are stationed at MacDill air force base in Tampa Florida I was born in Lakeland , moved to St Petersburg around 13 yrs . Which is only 25 minutes from Tampa so it was nothing to see them in different air shows throughout my life , There is another in the air force the Thunder Birds that is pretty incredible as well . Enjoy

I was fortunate enough to see them in Pensacola, Florida (their home!) They were giving an airshow the weekend I was there so we went and I was blown away! Took 1000's of pictures!!!! Our condo was on the beach and we got to see them practice a little as well as other planes in the show practicing too! It was just great!

These are actual fighter pilots, the best of the best. And, yes I've seen them many times, since 1960, about every couple of years, they come here to our airport and put on an amazing air show. They are phenomenal. You need to watch sn actual show, on you tube. You'll enjoy it.

There are 6 Blue Angels with # on each one. #1-4 are for group formation & #5 also do solo maneuvers. The tight diamond or triangle formations are so impressive. Wingtips are about 18" apart. Some maneuvers have them pulling serious Gs shooting straight up in formation. When you've seen them in person, which I have dozens of times, you know more what to expect, yet it's still amazing. Never gets old. Seeing them at Center point at the front row, is incredible. We've stayed to meet the pilots & have them sign the programs. Got to take my son & go to a meet and greet one time the day before the Kingsville show & meet everyone including The Golden Knights. They're all very personable & courteous. The Blue Angels are the final show each day of the Air Show. I highly recommend finding a really good video of their performance from a ground view in order to see the formations they do. In person is still the best, but a large screen with surround sound will give you a good idea.😊

I'm so happy you reacted to The Blue Angels. Would love to see more please. They really are that close. Actually the Fish Eye Lens distorted it a bit so they are CLOSER than what you are seeing. I'm pretty sure they are like 18 to 20 inches apart.I'm sure someone in the comments knows exactly how fast they fly. And how close they are to each other. I just know (I think) should be an F/A-18? Beautiful jets. These are the best of the best of our Naval Aviators. I never miss an air show. And make sure I go the days the A-10 Warthogs and the Blue Angels are flying. It's absolutely stunning show up close. Thanks again Andre for sharing this with us. Howdy y'all from the Great State of Texas 🤠🇺🇸

As a former Gulf Breeze, FL resident walking down to the beach and watching the BA practice was a thrill every time. Sadly, 26 pilots and 1 crew member has died.

Born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland. We lived thee blocks from the Naval Academy. Every year I was lucky enough to see them practice and also do their full show. If I didn't want to walk three blocks to the Naval Academy, I could just walk outside and see, (and HEAR) them perfectly from my house. Amazing shows, amazing memories! Didn't appreciate how lucky I was to live there back then and experience that.

We are very proud of these highly trained service men, and yes, they are the best of the best. If you can find other videos of them, it’s highly recommended. It’s extremely impressive to watch them from a farther distance to get an even better view of their choreography maneuvers. They are absolutely incredible!!!
