to the point of the A-10. nearly every plane in the US arsenal is better than the A-10. but the A-10 doesnt know that and the guys and gals flying the A-10 couldnt give less fucks about that and just make that thing work anyway. Oh and to the real world record of 104 to 0. The US tests newer aircraft against the best stuff they have, so they used the F-15 to test the F-22 in air to air combat. and the F-22 won of course --- 41 to 2 or something like that. and that was with the F-22 being handicapped by training manuals. so we can only guess what will happen if that thing is ever unleashed.

The best part? The F-15 that lost the right wing and part of the elevator was spraying so much fuel out the severed lines that the crew didn't even realize they'd lost the wing until they landed and said had they known they likely would've gave in and bailed out. When the Israelis told McDonnell Douglas what their plane had done, they called bullshit😂 and didn't even believe their own plane could do that claiming it had to be a taxi-ing incident on the ground, until they sent a team to see and verify the claims themselves. IIRC they ran simulations/did calculations afterwards and discovered the fuselage was wide enough that past a certain speed it generated enough lift to fly by itself without wings. Which was how it was saved in the first place, after its collision with an aggressor A-4N in Training it went into an uncontrollable roll towards the ground, it was only with the afterburner applied that it finally slowed its roll and became controllable. When they tried reducing power they went into another roll until relighting the afterburner again. They had to remain in afterburner while gushing all their remaining fuel through it and the lines in the severed wing all the way to base and landed at twice the recommended speed, with their emergency landing tail hook ripping off almost immediately after catching the cable and them only stopping 20ft short of the barrier at the end of the runway. If was only as the pilot turned to shake the hand of his instructor in the backseat that he saw and realized the severe extent of the damage. That particular F-15 was already famous im the Israeli AF for having 4 kills in the Lebanon war, it was repaired and returned to service, getting another kill only 2 years later.

Okay, so yes: the F15 was succeeded by the F22 which is by every metric publicly available a better, scarier air superiority fighter. Now, there's a problem with that for the F22. Quite literally, the plane is suffering from success: there is no one out there who can challenge the F15 head on, and thus no opposition has tried to fight the F22 since it can beat the F15.

TFE definitely front-loads a lot of information about the F-15, but when front-loaded like that it does seem fantastical. The F-15 DOES have a TWR >1, it CAN go 2000 miles on a tank of fuel, it DOES carry more bombs than god... But not at the same time. See, the eagle was designed to counter what we thought the Soviets were producing during the cold war. It was designed to be pound for pound, the most powerful aircraft ever made in the engine sense. All this power translates into an aircraft that DOMINATES the energy fight. That is to say, while everyone else flying corkscrews towards the ground trying to trade altitude for speed at just the right moment, this thing can at any time decide to just go skyward and never slow down. That means the eagle gets up high where the other planes can't reach because that takes time to build back up to, comes back around, and ends you. The loadout for this traditional air superiority configuration is pretty much just the gun and a few extra missiles once the fight starts. Oh, and it has a very powerful radar in the nose. Let's not talk about The Eagle Wall. The massive ferry range and bomb capacity of the F-15 are a side-effect of all that engine power and someone realizing that if you aren't currently needing all that extra power to out-energy an enemy fighter, you can LIFT. So the F-15 can be configured to carry three HUGE drop tanks. And provided it doesn't need to race anywhere, can make those tanks stretch a long, long way. Thus, you get your massive ferry range of over 2,000 miles. Alternately, the same 'do you even LIFT bro?' that allows it to carry huge tanks, can also be swapped with other heavy things, like bombs. Lots of bombs. So many bombs that somewhere along the line of making model updates, someone took an air superiority fighter, and turned it into the world's nastiest two-man strike aircraft. The F-15E 'Strike Eagle'. You know you're carrying a LOT of unhealthcare when you need a whole second seat just the hold the guy who's SOLE purpose in life is to act like a mobile postal sorting facility making sure the correct warheads arrive on the correct foreheads.

When you ask if the F-15 is better than the A-10, it’s not a simple yes or no. They have different missions. The A-10 will have more combat than the F-15 and the A-10 is expected to get shot at. As you’ve already seen, but I haven’t made it to that part yet, the F-15 is almost untouchable. I had the joy of being able to watch and listen to the F-15 take off about every 20-40 minutes on a couple deployments. It’s a thing of beauty. As great as watching an F-15 take off, in my opinion, still doesn’t beat a B-1 taking off. Both take off with their afterburners on and the B-1 wins out on that one (not talking about top speed or quickness)

Per the A10 vs F15 question, they have two VERY different missions. The A10 are built for one thing only: Tank busting. The main cannon the GAU-8 Avenger makes up a bulk of that aircraft and the way its rounds are loaded is in a 2 2 1 configuration. 2 Armor piercing rounds to breach the tank's armor, 2 Phosphorous round, meant to make the air within the tank extremely volatile, and 1 tracer round which serves a dual purpose. The first is the typical tracer round function its more or less to see generally where your aiming. The second is what makes this 2 2 1 set up so terrifying for anyone driving or inside the tank in question. Tracers are EXTREMELY hot. So the last round mixes with the phosphorous now inside said tank and BOOM no more tank. By the time you hear the report of the cannon, it's already too late the rounds impact faster than the speed of sound. The F15 on the other hand as of now acts as a multipurpose fighter, able to provide CAS and air superiority. Think of it like a jack of all trades master of none type deal. Well except for that 104 to 0 win loss ratio...

One detail about the F-22 that I haven't seen mentioned in the comments is that there are no more F-22s being built. It had originally been designed and produced in the late '90s/early 2000s as a stealth air superiority fighter against a near-peer or peer adversary. Someone like what the Soviet Union had been. However, after the fall of the Soviet Union, and with the onset of the Global War on Terror, Congress decided that the need for an aircraft as advanced (and costly) as the F-22 no longer existed, so it's entire production and manufacturing chain was torn up and repurposed to use in the F-35 project. So while, yes, the F-22 is superior to the F-15 (and every other aircraft in the world at the moment), America's fleet of around 100 F-22s is all that will ever exist, because the cost to rebuild the entire manufacturing and production lines is close to what it would cost to design a newer (and better) sixth generation aircraft... which is exactly what the US is doing.

Bill Sentry - My associate in the Air Force was a munitions crew chief on US Air Force flight lines for about a decade. The first Eagle squadron was part of his daily work. One pilot requested clearance from the runway to 40,000 feet. Only 2 minutes later the tower called 'We cant see you on radar. Where are you?' The pilot replied he was at 40,000 feet, still over the airbase, still accelerating straight up! Eagles would park at one end of a hanger outside, and before they reached the other end of the hanger, they were off the ground! As he sat in the cockpit doing weapons work he saw the targeting box on the Heads Up Display following another guy by his belt buckle, as he walked across the runway! It was the first fighter with more thrust than weight. In theory it could fly without wings! That would naturally be tough to control. The F-15 Eagle was the first aircraft where all of the outer bolts on the air frame were the same type and size. It was made to be easier to maintain and repair. Civilians don't often think about the importance of such details. The F-15, unlike other fighters of the time, did not require carts by it to spin up the engines. It relied on an internal capacitor. A truly major leap ahead in aerial combat capabilities. You don't want to face the US Air Force in combat.

The revamped Eagle incorporates the latest stuff and everything the Eagle did, in now does even better. Oh, and that satellite kill was in 1985! The cruise range is at cruise speed, not top speed. The F-22 is stealthy. The 15 is still faster. The latest fly by wire additions are said to make it much more maneuverable yhan it was before despite lacking thrust vectoring.

It is worth noting that, as amazing as the F-15 is, it can't carry a bunch of weapons, fly really fast, and fly really far all at the same time; at most, it can do two of those things at one time. The 3,300 mile unrefueled flight range is the entire flight (except takeoff and landing) at at "cruising" speed (which is "only" 500 miles per hour, or about as fast as an airliner) and carrying an additional 1,500 gallons of fuel in 3 external tanks and no weapons. In a combat configuration, the F-15's range is only 450 miles (if the plan is to return to the airbase it leaves from; if not, then the table is up to 900 miles). For reference, that is approximately the distance between Faro and Viana do Castelo.

That's the awesome thing about American military planes, they're often highly modular so you can customize each aircraft for a specific mission.

When I was a little girl I wanted to be an F-15 pilot when I grew up. However, in 2001 when I turned 18 women were not allowed to fly them on the front line😢! It may have been possible to be a wingman but my granddaddy had a heart attack and help was needed on the cattle farm and I was the best option (my oldest cousin was deployed, my 2nd oldest cousin had no interested in farm life) So I became a nurse then a teacher. I still love to fly!! Even my golden retriever loved to fly!!

The A-10 is a great aircraft and one of my favorites as well. The A-10's purpose is for ground support for the most part, it is also one of the quietest jets in the fleet. The F15 is an air to air fighter with multiple roles as a bomber and ground support as well. The F15 is my favorite attack air to air fighter while the A-10 is my favorite jet for ground support missions. Both are great jets and both are to be feared if you ever know that one is coming for you.

The F-22 is considered a superior fighter because of it's ability to engage enemies before they're even aware that it's sharing air space with it. It isn't as fast, it doesn't carry as much of a payload, but it can apply that payload consistently without presenting itself as a target, so it would rarely, if ever, have to Dogfight. The F-15 was designed to win any dogfight Ever because it's competition at the time, The MiG Foxbat, had False specifications released by the USSR to try and hype up it's air program. U.S.A. designed the F-15 essentially to beat a plane in a fight, that didn't exist, so it came out Drastically over-designed.

1:21 yes and no, they are made for different things. F-15 is mostly used and was built to be an Air-Superiority fighter and Intercepter so it is best at taking down Aircraft while being one of, if not, the fastest fighter jet in the world, tho some spectaculate that the F-22 is actually faster if safty protocals were removed, but the A-10 is made to be a low and slow close air-support Aircraft and tank killer so they are each better at different things than the other. Btw the F-15 is faster in a burst like a sprint runner in 100 meter dash but the F-22 is faster overall like in a 1000 meter dash, another example is Death Valley is the world's hottest desert at it's peak temps but the Sahara Desert is hotter on average

@european-reacts the F-15 is non-stealth so it can be seen by radar and the F-22 is more maneuverable but like I mentioned before the F-15 is faste in a straight line dash. The F-15 is still loved. I think it is mentioned in the song " Courtesy of the red, white and blue" by Toby Keith which was written on a napkin days after 9/11 in righteous fury but released officially years later, anyway the line "the Eagles will fly, it's going to be hell", I think it is a reference to the F-15 which is call Strike Eagle

Remember the F35 video where it can data link other planes? The F15EX is one of those planes. The F35 can aim and launch the weapons on the F15 FROM the F35 cockpit, and keep its own weapons unused for deeper penetration strikes while remaining stealth. TF15EX = bomb, missile truck for F35. You should do a video on the new NGAD and Loyal Wingman program. Americas next stealth Fighter to replace F22, and the AI drone that will accompany each NGAD.

@LeviathanWebWorks26 күн бұрын
Let's also not forget that the F-15 can roll 'bomb truck' loadout, and also that the newer missiles and bombs the US has can be handed off. So an F-22 or SR-72 can be over enemy airspace, have an F15 launch a missile beyond its radar range, the forward aircraft can 'pick up' the missile and guide it the rest of the way. And bomb truck loadout on the F15 is just... yeah go look it up.

It's also capable of Refueling mid air so It also could in theory fly full throttle slow down long enough to top up fuel over the Atlantic and then hammer down to London. But yes trans Atlantic it would be at cruising speed which is probably 6-800 MPH

The F15 as designed was an air superiority fighter built for the express purpose of attacking and defeating MiG25's. Our (USA) intel on the MiG25 was so far off base that it turned out the F15 was overbuilt. Still, as it approaches it's 50th year of active service, it is still an integral part of the USAF. As it gained time in service, improvements were made. The wing pylons got stronger for bombs, smarter for smart bombs, and plumbed for fuel drop tanks. Confirmal fuel packs got grafted onto the fuselage sides in such a way as to actually increase lift while providing a significant amount of fuel storage. AIM9L missles gave way to AIM9X. Sparrows became the newest Amm-ram (I disremember the actual designation...what I posted is what the acronym sounds like...). HUD. FLIR. The list goes on. The newest iteration, the -EX is a flying dumptruck of smart warheads for foreheads, still maintaining all the performance we've come to know and love with more power and better fuel economy. In 1975 as I was enroute to my permanent duty station from training, there was a layover at St Louis. I walked out to the observation deck for a smoke. Looking around I saw McDonald Douglas across the field from civilian Lambert Field. A large door opened and the Streak Eagle rolled out. A highly modified, lightened, and stripped down prototype F15 built for crushing FAI flight records. It turned right which put it halfway down the main runway. Jets spool up, decibels climbing by the second, brakes release and the craft leaps forward. In less than 600 ft it was off the ground and the nose was pointed 85° in the air before the gear was even up. It was supersonic while still within sight. Thrill of my young life! The F15 was soon joined by it's ramp partner, the F16 as the second component of the high-low mix the Air Force sought. Just as good in it's role as the fifteen, just built for a different job. Never intended to replace the Eagle, rather to complement it.

In 1975, an F-15 "Streak Eagle" set the following time-to-climb records: * 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) - 27.57 seconds * 6,000 meters (19,685 feet) - 39.33 seconds * 9,000 meters (29,685 feet) - 48.86 seconds * 12,000 meters (39,370 feet) - 59.38 seconds * 15,000 meters (49,212 feet) - 77.02 seconds * 20,000 meters (65,617 feet) - 122.94 seconds * 25,000 meters (82,021 feet) - 161.02 seconds * 30,000 meters (98,425 feet) - 207.80 seconds (by comparison, a typical jet airliner can take more than 15 minutes to climb to 9,000 metres) These records were previously held by a Soviet Mig-25 Foxbat. The F-15 didn't just beat the Foxbat's records, it shattered them by around 25%. And nearly 50 years later, its records still stand. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpDJaYCFjc1qp9k

The fly by wire control systems first created on the F16 made it possible for the F15 to internally react and adjust flight surfaces without the pilot changing inputs. The F15 had enough lift from one wing and the body to keep flying because o these then advanced electronics. Similarly NASA had the F16 thrust vectoring experimental plane and proved that it could do a 180degree flip and remain in controlled flight moving backwards until the thrust output countered the reverse direction. Videos are available if this exact manuver. This was the basis for later software and electronics that make the F22 and F35 thrust vectoring work. It was said after leaving NASA the F16 was used as a trainer as it could be programmed to behave like any other plane. It's limits were simply whatever was programmed into it. So it could fly like a Russian jet or a 747 just by limiting it's allowed flight control surface movements. This is due to the very unstable flight design of the F16. It was impossible to fly such a design without advance electronic controls.
