Yes! The market! But the grocery stores are fun also! I try to go to a grocery store every place I go. It’s familiar, but different at the same time.

I remember this tipping thing vividly.. but from the other way around. We don't do tipping here but when I go to Asia, I have to teach myself to tip. Thankfully my fiancée is local (Filipina) so she can remind me to "forget" to ask for the small change. 12:15 Depends on where you are, Steve. For Dutch, Germans and other North-Western Europeans, time is money too and time wasters are despised. So we expect the service to be prompt and be good. Call us spoiled but we pay a lot of money so we expect good results.

One thing that bothered me in Ukraine is they don't bring you cold drinks. You have to ask for ice. If you get a drink, it's usually not cold. This even goes for kiosks that sell sodas and juice or water. It's usually not cold. You have to ask for a cold drink and a lot of the time, they don't have it. The drinks in refrigerators - usually not cold. Usually they are either room temperature or "cool". Us Americans are accustomed to ice cold drinks.

Same goes for us Western Europeans. In Britain the beer usually isn't cold -- and that can be a minor source of annoyance for us Continentals --- but you'll learn soon enough.

Fruits and veggies ripen at different times of the year. Seasonable food, is food eaten during the times when they would normally be harvested in. Which foods and when will vary depending on geographical location and climate.

Because the EU shed their 'farmer dining schedule" when they stopped being farmers. The US has not. Note the lack of obese people there as well -- sane portions, balanced diets, not as much hidden sugar and processed food. Walkable cities with fewer people owning cars requiring more physical activities.

@@carrierueden756 Depends where you are in Europe. It has to do with the climate, especially the hot summers. In Southern Europe people have diner late, say as from 20:00-21:00. Especially in Southern Spain there is no local in the restaurant before 21:00 hrs. This has to do with the siesta: you have a warm lunch and a rest between 12:00 and 16:00. And you have your diner when it cools down in the evening. In Northern Europe Lunch is at 11:30-13:00. Diner at home as from 17:00 to 19:00. In restaurants it usually starts around 18:00. Climate is cooler, no need to stay indoors during the heat.

Margaret King There's plenty of savoring good food in the USA. You snobs (British, right?) are so stuck up with yourselves and think America is beneath you. You've likely never even been to the USA or experienced real food here. Pure ignorance on your part.
