As an American that's only now recovered from the NCAAs enough to look at the Euros, these are informative and entertaining day-end summaries. I need to see if the NCAA and USATF do similar round-up broadcasts. No offense but British broadcasters don't sound this energetic during the actual broadcasts. And the competition was outstanding. Irena Szewińska's Polish NR (a WR in winning 1976 Montreal gold) being broken is huge. I remember that race. Ireland's mixed 4x4 victory is cool because I thought their inclusion in the Budapest23 final was noteworthy at the time. Nobody seemed to comment on it. A lot of great performances in this meet.

400mih will be another thriller at the Olympics.
@richardgallimore59767 ай бұрын
I was not expecting 3 athletes ahead of Magi for the men's 400mH. He didn't run badly or anything, he ran a solid low 48, yet only got 4th. 400mH is really being pushed closer to it's limits these past few years. Sure the top 3 are still Warholm, Benjamin, & Dos Santos, but we're having many more athletes in the 47 range (even NCAA's were won with a low 47 in the States this year). Pre-Warholm era a mid-47 could win an Olympics & now we have multiple athletes per race getting near that. Women's similarly is being pushed although we haven't quite yet seen the next batch of athletes getting into the 52s. I think it's coming soon though. Sydney/Bol (& a could years back Muhammad) are the only sub-52 for now & most other elite athletes are in the 54s, but I think we're start seeing more 53s & eventually get to a point where 52s is the caliber required for a World Championship or Olympic Final.

@richardgallimore59767 ай бұрын
@@OedipusSimplex Sydney has only ran sub-51 seconds that one time, her second best time is 51.41. Bol's best is 51.45. If Bol runs her best & Sydney closer to her second best it should be a very close race. Her 50.68 is an outlier, similar to Warholm's 45.94. Warholm lost a race to Dos Santos a couple Diamond league's ago even though his PB is a big amount ahead. On the women's side I'd say it'll be close between Bol & Sydney. On the men's side I'd say it'll be close between Warholm, Benjamin, & Dos Santos. I think looking at an athlete's total times/season best progression is more important than looking at their PB. Sydney has gone under 52 6 times, Bol 5 times. Sydney also didn't do many races last year due to that knee injury. Bol ran low 53, then Sydney high 52, now Bol mid-52 in terms of season bests this season so it's looking quite close. I still think Sydney is the favorite, but she won't be beating Bol by 0.8~1.0 seconds this year, it'll be much closer.
@OedipusSimplex7 ай бұрын
@@richardgallimore5976 Your comparison to the men's doesn't add up because Benjamin's PB is about 0.2 sec slower than Warholm's (same race). Dos Santos' PB is 0.3 sec slower (different race and track). These are the 3 fastest times ever. Importantly these 2 guys have beaten Warholm. They are in the same ballpark. Sydney has the 2 fastest times and 5 of the 7. Going below 52 is irrelevant. Femke is not in her league. Femke can only win by luck not speed. That's why you are imagining Sydney runs slower and Femke repeats her PB.
@richardgallimore59767 ай бұрын
@@OedipusSimplex Femke has multiple-ish rns close to her 51.45 PB, there is at least the 51.70 & I believe a 51.9x & a 52.03. Sydney has 0 runs that are 0.3~0.6 seconds away from her own PB, her closest time is ~0.8. Her PB is also from 2 years ago, Femke's is from 1 year ago. Current form it's 52.50 SB Femke, 52.70 SB Sydney. 48.76 Outdoor 400 Sydney, Indoor 49.17 Bol.
