There are many Italians in my family here in Western Australia. Our climate down in the South West is described as Mediterranean. Many former WW2 prisoners returned to Europe gathered their families and brought them to a new life in Australia.

The commentator did not mention that Australia is very multi-cultural with over 200 ethnicities living here. There are many videos on You tube about the cities and countryside for you to choose from if you just type in the key words.

Ladies, Italians form a great part of culture in Australia, they have been here since the gold rush times in the 1850's onwards. In my home city of Melbourne they are business people, restauranteurs etc. They would be second only to those of Greek heritage as a proportion of non-Brittish people in my city. Melbourne also has significant Chinese and Vietnamese people. By the way, it was the Italian population who created Australia's mad coffee culture!

Australia is so unique, not just in its physical geography, but also its people. Would love to visit Australia and Newzealand some day. And Yep! Australia and China don't get along well now. That's why QUAD (USA, India, Japan, Australia) has become very significant for Indo-pacific these days, to basically counter China.

KZbin also has an interesting aussie series "Stuff everyone should know about Australia". Gives an insight into indigenous Australian culture and history in an engaging and positive way. Each episode is short but very informative and presented with a good blend of respect, accuracy and typical Australian humour.

One thing missing was the Coffee culture that pervades Australia as a result of the Italian and Greek immigrants in the 1950's. They changed the national drink from tea to coffee and the nation into coffee connoisseurs.

Australian wildlife can be summed up with a line from "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"; "mostly harmless". It's the feral species such as pigs, water buffalo, and European wasps which are usually more dangerous. As for spiders, the Sydney Funnel-web and the Redback are the most dangerous in terms of their venom. But since antivenin is available, there haven't been any deaths from spider bites in decades. In Victoria, close to the NSW border, is an old army base and migrant camp called Bonegilla. It's on the Victorian Heritage Register. The migrants were mainly from the Mediterranean region and some central Europeans, many of whom worked on the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric scheme. The camp is actually pronounced "Bone-gilla" (hard g). But the Italians naturally pronounced it as "Bona-gilla". Thus, the army camp is officially pronounced as "Bone-gilla" while the migrant camp has the other pronunciation.

New subscriber. Light n easy but serious about the subjects. Well done. You popped up in recommended. Aussie guy, 52yrs young. I'm soon heading off around Australia in a 4x4 with trailer/toy hauler/camper, paramotor or ultralight plane to go flying, and a boat on the roof. 🙂 I travelled Australia well when younger, but missed seeing Western Australian and Northern Territory. Had to study them instead. I'd be happy to chat and do my best to answer any questions you have. I'm knowledgeable in many subjects, master of only a few. Love to learn, so can research subjects from local point of view also. This is something I am already doing for my adventures, so happy to share. Who knows, might have some fresh content for you in a few months. Let me know. Cheers 😊

Pretty ordinary video narrated by an American who has no idea. It's not Can-bear-a, it's pronounced Can-bra. It's not Jervis Bay (though it's spelled that way), it's Jarvis Bay. The big star on our flag does not represent the Commonwealth; it's the Federation Star, the points represent the States and Territories which united as a country on 1 January 1901

Melbourne actually has the biggest Greek population outside Greece and also has a huge Italian population who love Carlton (the suburb and the football team). My favourite food is Italian. The fear of the wildlife is a laugh. With snakes you stand still and they go on their way (they are hard of hearing 😂😂😂 and actually sense movement with their tongue) everything else you can walk away from. The exception is the dingo (wild native dog) on Fraser Island where you are warned to not walk alone, apparently (never been there) they can gather together and stalk single individuals. With spiders you check shoes by tapping them before putting them on and that’s about it. Oh, unless you really go North to the tropics where you always check for crocodile signs because they could be in rivers, billabongs and in the sea water (just swim in a swimming pool … but check before jumping in) because the sea water pool at Townsville had a DO NOT SWIM warning sign saying that a “salty” crocodile had been sighted in the pool when we visited. Seriously, I am over 70, live in Melbourne and have never seen a live snake, only the odd lizard and spider. PS we usually have wire safety screens on our doors and windows to ensure against all the critters you are afraid of. If you come all States have a Tourism Bureau that can be accessed on line to explain all the points of interest. I have also seen travel blogs on Pinterest that discuss travelling, tourist sites, costs, $ saving tips, dining options etc. I hope you make it here.

Don't be afraid to come here, please. You don't need to be concerned about wildlife unless you plan to live in the wilderness. Just stay in the cities and suburbs, even rural areas, you'll be fine. You need to go pretty deep to start having a problem. Everyone thinks there is an issue, and we like messing with people, so we're happy to play it up for our own amusement, it's just not true, and we would love to have you.

The things missing from this video as it was quite brief... -A bit about the cities and states, tourist spots and buildings - Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Darwin, Alice Springs, Hobart -Our national sport AFL (Australian rules football) and cricket (which is played internationally), -Hardly any reference to our unique wildlife and plants - kangaroos, cockatoos, bilby, echidna, platypus, wombats, koalas, frilled lizard, eucalyptus, banksia, kangaroo paw etc that could take videos. -A bit about our politics Edit: As of today 22/05 our current Labor government and prime minister Anthony Albanese -The great barrier reef, the largest living organism on Earth -Ayers rock/Uluru - a sacred aboriginal site -Exports and mining (such as coal, uranium, iron ore and other natural resources) and farming, -Foods (like our meat pie and a couple of other things), -Australia day, Anzac day and other important days, -Some historical figures like Ned Kelly, Harold Holt, C.Y O'Connor -Our music and famous people - ACDC, Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, Heath Ledger, The Living End, Midnight Oil, Mel Gibson and more. And a couple of other things.

When I was growing up in Sydney, one of the biggest football clubs there was Marconi, an Italian supported club in Fairfield, south-west of the city. Their full name is the Marconi Stallions. They were quite a successful club and had a big rivalry with Sydney Olympic, a Greek supported club. Football back in the 80's was very ethnic-based, with some clubs being supported by particular fans, like above. It did at times cause problems with violence breaking out in the stands. Marconi still exists but they are now only a semi-professional club. That's my little history lesson.

An interesting video to react to. He was very superficial, and wrong on a few things. Short version, Australia is big, dry, hot, and flat. After WWII, a lot of Europeans migrated here, including Italians. They are responsible for the excellent coffee culture Australia now has. If you were to come here on a working holiday visa, consider coming as Italian language teachers.

Jokingly we mainland Aussies refer to Tasmanians as inbred or 2headed freaks. It's just what we do . You might be surprised to know that in the south West of Australia we have a large population of Italians (or at least Italian heritage). In my class in primary school I was one of 2 non italians in the class . It was a catholic school.

You are right about Australia population. According to Australia population live clock the population is 26.4 million people. Theirs roughly 3.2 million born Italians live in Australia with probably more than double that, that are of Aussie British and Italian mixed nationality. I have 2 uncles myself who married Italian Australian born girls. And have 5 cousins mixed nationality. My girlfriend is also mixed Italian and British descendant Italians 2nd and Greek 3rd make up the next largest ethically population group after the British descendants in Australia than any other. Asians would make up 4th largest ethical group of the population.

I’m Australian, born here, so I’m biased, wouldn’t live anywhere else. Link below - Found a video of someone from overseas moving here. He seems to have quite a few informative videos for the differences in many aspects for people moving or visiting from other countries. It’s very multicultural here, and I love it. The different food, learning first hand about where they lived and why they came here. Many of my friends are first generation Australians whose parents moved here. Always had wonderful neighbours, usually Italian and Greek as a teenager, now much older, other neighbours from other countries. Personally I’ve never had a problem but there would be racist people here, lucky me, I don’t know them 😊 If link isn’t what you are looking for, someone will find something for you . Despite the fact they sound similar Australia and Austria have different origins Australia derives from the Lain Australis (Southern) as in Terra Australis Incognito (the unknown southern land) - when map makers speculated that there must be a large continent in the south to counterbalance the huge land mass in the north Austria derives from the German Ost - or east.

Australia has a huge Italian descent population who emigrated after WW2 and the largest Greek population outside of Greece. Our excellent coffee culture is derived from Italian immigrants so you will enjoy that if you ever make it down here ;) Aussies love Italians and all things Italian. Melbourne is seen to have a large Italian influence but make sure you head to Far North Queensland because a LOT of the Banana Industry in Far North Queensland was developed by Italian immigrants as well. There is also nothing to fear from our wildife ... except for Dropbears :) One caution I would give though is - you speak about a 'working holiday'. Be a bit careful because there are some 'dodgy' employers out bush (we never call it 'the Outback' - Australians call it 'the Bush') who will take advantage of 'Backpackers'. Those farm and picking jobs pay little and its hard work out there in the hot sun. I hope you both make it down here one day ;)

I have a chinese neighbour who is a very quiet living person, so I am not racist. Most of us aren't racist. How could we be when we are one of the most ethnically diverse countries on the planet. If you are a decent person, and want to work and get ahead we are welcoming. Call us the chewing gum on your shoe though and you know where you can go. Try c hina. :)
